“Just tell me how bad it is for real, sis.” I sighed. I reached for the door when it opened, and I looked up into teal eyes.

“Naw. You left me in the hot seat of bullshit and worried as hell about you.”

“Dali, come on,” I said, taking a step back. Remi slipped inside and held the door open while watching me silently.

“Fine, fine, let me see if I can figure out exactly how mad they are, and I will call you back,” Dali murmured.

“Thanks.” I ended the call and thanked Remi for holding the door as I stepped out. I jogged down the stone steps and unlocked my car.

“Hi!” I stopped with my hand on the back door and peeked around the back of the car. I saw a mess of curls and the cutest smile.

“Hi, Meesha. Aren’t you supposed to be getting ready for dinner?” I asked, looking around.

“I finished early so that I can tell Alpha Dax good night. He checks my room to make sure no red eyes are in there,” she whispered. I frowned because usually, shifter children aren’t scared of such things.

“Red eyes?”

“Yeah, the bad ones that came before. They took me once,” Meesha whispered. She looked to the ground and clutched her stuffed white wolf tightly.

“Well, we won’t let that happen,” I smiled.

“Meesha! Meesha, it’s time for bed!” I heard the voice of the woman from earlier. I looked back down, but Meesha was already running off.

“Bye, cat lady!” She laughed. I grabbed my bag, curious about what she could be talking about, when I felt someone behind me. I turned on my heel and slid to the left, pulling out a blade simultaneously. I held the blade at my side as I faced Remi, who raised her brows at me.

“Nice moves. You are good with the child. She seems to like you without knowing you. Sometimes a child has good instincts, but other times they do not. Which time is this?” Remi’s voice held a slight French accent, but I knew it wasn’t. I couldn’t place where she was from or what type of shifter. I also did not hear her until she was just a few feet away from me, which wasn’t like me.

“I said it before, and I will repeat it. I am not here to hurt anyone, especially not a child. I am here for a purpose you will learn about soon.” I stood up straighter, lifting my bag onto my shoulder. I made a show of sliding my blade away, and those glowing teal eyes followed the movement.

“So you said before. It’s just so much mistrust about you, Hunters. Now I need to be sure these shifters will be safe with you here.” Her gaze held mine, and I inclined my head.

“The harm is not from me.”

“Maybe not the physical harm, but it doesn’t mean that you, Hunter are safe.” My brows pulled together, but Remi turned and walked away. I couldn’t even hear her footsteps on the dirt. I didn’t know what she was, but it was ancient. My phone beeped as I started for the house. The sun was setting, and I could hear the surrounding homes getting their young to bed.

“Dali, what’s up?” I answered.

“You are at Dax Rayne’s house right now. Are you crazy?” Dali screamed into the phone.

“Yes, it’s fine. I’m fine.”

“You’re fine. Right, and I believe that because you say so. Devana, you do realize that he dies in your vision. You died in that fucking vision! I’m on my way.”

“No! No, you will stay home where you can carry out our family name if… if it plays out the way, my vision went.”

“Hell no! Fuck this, Vana! Are you crazy! We can handle this a different way,” she cried.

“Dali, you know every time I decided on what should be done, it all ended the same. The only way things changed is when I went alone and spoke with Quinn. When I awoke from that last vision, my time was out, and this, this right here, is the only way we have a chance. I need all of them to trust me, at least a little, for us to win. If this is the only way to bring shifter and Hunter kind on one accord once again, then so be it. I love you, sister. I will not be on the video chat. When this is over and we win, I will deal with the consequences.”

I ended the call and debated to hit the button to cut off the power, but I decided to leave it on. I never knew what might happen or if someone needed to get in contact with me. I stepped inside of my temporary room and closed the door. I leaned against it, praying this is what had to be done to save this entire Pack.

As I left the house, I saw Thomas and Jarod doing a perimeter check-in in their wolf forms. I knew that we would face this threat together and take them down with my brothers all here. Right now, I needed to find my Beta Dimitri to discuss powering up our wards around the property. I seldom called on the Witches that we are contracted with, but I had to take every precaution if this bastard is coming for my Pack. I saw the fire blazing at the pit where the Pack meeting would occur and made my way over to it.

“Alpha?” I turned to see a lion shifter looking up at me. Her medallion gold eyes held a steely expression.

“Yes, Leodora.”

“Do you think it’s safe that you have a Hunter on these lands? I mean for the children, and we know what happens when they are trusted,” she said. She wrapped her toned, tanned arms around her waist, but her eyes were hard.
