Wren didn’t have the energy to be mad at Hudson.

“Okay, so when will he be here.”

“He’s actually been here and gone already.” He reached behind his back and pulled a box out of his back pocket, handing it to Wren.

“Oh. I guess I could go take the test. Might help to know one way or the other.”

“Do you want help?”

What would he do to help? She had to pee on a stick, it was pretty simple.

“No but thank you. I appreciate you wanting to help. Just wait outside the door, it shouldn’t take long.

She went in the downstairs half bath and closed the door. She’d seen movies where the heroine was in the position she is now and she has to be feeling much like those characters. Nervous. It kind of surprised her.

“I could actually already be a mom.”

That was a bit terrifying but to have a baby with Hudson really was a dream come true. And for him too. The ranch meant so much and hopefully the family they were trying to create would as well. For a split second, she wondered what her family would think. But that was a thought for another day, much later.

No time like the present. She opened the box, and read the direction page, did what she was supposed to do and then set it on the sink. The waiting for the result was the worst part.

“How’s it going in there.” Hudson tapped on the door.

She saw no reason to keep him isolated. She opened the door where he impatiently waited.

“We have to wait ten minutes for the results.”

“Can I see the test?”

“No, neither of us are going to mess with it. Ten minutes.”

She couldn’t help but glance at the clock on the bathroom wall, willing it to go faster but every time she looked, only seconds had passed. She wasn’t looking at Hudson either. For whatever reason he was making her more nervous. There was a lot riding on this little plastic test. It held their future. Unbelievable.

Finally, even though it didn’t feel like it, enough time had passed that the results should show on the test.

She grabbed ahold of the plastic tube, careful not to look at it but focused on Hudson instead.

“Are you ready?”

“Yes!”

He was apparently excited.

She still wasn’t looking at it but held it up and turned the result window toward him and she watched his features very carefully for a reaction.

He stared at it for much longer than she was comfortable with and finally broke the silence.

“Well, what does it say?”

He looked up at her then and smiled.

“Yeah? Really? Are you telling me it’s positive? Hudson, please tell me.”

“Well babe, we’re going to have a baby and I cannot wait to see you all pregnant with my baby. I don’t’ think I’ve ever been more excited about anything in my life, except when I married you.”

A tear escaped down her cheek.

“Oh, babe don’t cry. This is a happy occasion.”
