“No, it doesn’t, but we’re trying to find out as much as we can. We’ve just had a few… obstacles pop up the last few weeks.”

“The Maverick thing?” I ask, and he nods, “Is there anything I can do?”

He smiles softly but shakes his head. “No, but thank you. Just do me a favor?”

I raise an eyebrow but stay quiet and wait for him to continue. “Something big is happening with the Knights and I don’t know if it’s good or bad, but please, don’t go anywhere alone for a while.”

My stomach drops at the thought of being in more danger. Just what I wanted for Christmas.

“I’ll try my best,” I offer, because that’s all I’ve got right now. “Do we have any information on my stalker?”

He grins wide at me. “Now that… that I have good news about.” His phone chimes in his hand, and his smile drops. “Except I’m going to have to come back to it. I have to run. I’m sorry, V.”

“You have got to be kidding me.” I sigh, throwing my hands up in frustration. This hot and cold, push and pull bullshit is getting old.

He steps forward and kisses me, like it’s an everyday occurrence. I hold onto his waist as he kisses me like he needs me to breathe. He pulls back, resting his forehead on mine. “I’ll come back. I swear. Just… be patient with us. Please.”

It’s the “please” that gets me, and I nod before he pulls back and jogs out of my house.

I have no idea which way is up, but I do know that I’m getting a little tired of everyone picking me up and putting me down like a doll. These people need to learn that I am more capable than they realize.
