“What’s going on?”

“There have been two more accidents with other people like the one you and Troy found.”

“Really? Any connection?”

Ash shook her head. “None that I can find yet.”

“How’s the man?”

“He’s in the hospital now. His family and friends said they have no idea why he’s acting like that.”

“Bad batch?” Megan asked.

Ash shook her head. “No reported history and besides, he’s clean right now. It’s like he had a breakdown and it’s spreading.”

“But that can’t be contagious.”

Ash shrugged again. “It’s bothering me.”

“I can tell.”

“People don’t go from normal to crazy with no notice. Something sets them off.”

“I agree.”

“But I can’t find the link.”

“What are the other guys like?”

“Well, for starters they’re all male, in their twenties and thirties.”

“Okay, healthy? Employed?” Megan was familiar with quizzing Ash when she was on the hunt for answers as they liked to call it.

“Athletes. Prime of their life healthy. Employment varies, but they were involved in something that had to do with security of some kind.”

“Any other cases in other localities?”

Ash shook her head. “I’ve put in a few calls. Nothing’s popped yet.”

“If there’s a link, you’ll find it.”

Ash stared off into the distance while she turned over the case in her mind. “I’m trying. Different schools, families, socioeconomic status.”

“What do you mean they all worked in security?”

“The first guy, the one you ran into—“

“You mean who almost ran into me.”

“Right—until lover boy tackled him. He works as a security guard at the jewelry store.”

“Okay and the others?”

“One is security officer at the local high school, and the last one is event security for when the fair comes to town.”

“Oh, that is an odd mix.”

“Yeah, so I don’t know what to make of it, but it’s bothering me.”
