Alyssa…

She must be so worried.

My phone…

I hadn’t even looked at it yet today.

I run upstairs popping the last bite in my mouth on the way and grabbing my phone.

Shoot, there are multiple texts from her and a call from the diner. And there's a text from Danny that just came in five minutes ago saying he'll be home soon.

I jog back downstairs to wait on him and discuss this pressing issue about my job. He’ll know what to do. I can’t leave Alyssa hanging though so I text her that I had an emergency last night and Danny and I had to stay with a friend. And that I’d call her in a bit.

When I look up I realize I’ve carried myself back to the spectacular backyard view but this time I don’t see Jax or the blonde in the pool. I poke my neck out curious and squint. Tiny waves are rippling so they have to be around.

My eyes scan the crystal blue water and I finally see them. Two heads bobbing on the wall in the deep end. The girl’s arms are stretched on the sides of the pool holding herself steady and Jax’s hands are there too. Both of them are moving…up and down…in rhythm…they’re…

I gasp and my jaw drops. I want to turn away and I do for a second, but then I can’t help myself as I slowly turn back around, firmly planted where I am, and I lick my lips as I watch Jax kiss her. She’s moaning now and unfamiliar flutters rush between my legs. Her moans get louder telling him not to stop and I look even harder…and then his eyes…they meet mine.

I jump. My hand flings to my mouth, and I know I should move, run, at least turn away, but my feet are still planted, unable to move and he continues to rock into her. I swear I see an ember in his eyes and feel its smolder encase me. It feels like his eyes are seeing right through to my darkest secrets.

Danny comes running in through the side of the fence and I jump again. He grabs a towel off of one of the lounge chairs, swinging it in the air acting as if he’s about to throw it at them. Jax breaks away from the girl throwing a huge splash right at Danny and I can hear them all laughing while the blonde turns and shields herself against the wall.

I grab my mouth chuckling as I finally break away and head to the foyer. The tickle in my stomach bubbles up again shocked at my voyeur behavior. And then my grin wipes away as I remember Jax staring right at me.

This is going to besoawkward.

Danny comes in the front door before I can worry much more about it and my eyes light up. It’s been such a confusing day.

"Hey, there kiddo! I didn't expect front door service."

“Hey,” my words are short and rushed. “I forgot I had to work today.”

“I didn’t. You needed to rest. I let you sleep.”

“No! I mean yes, but, no. I didn’t even wake up until about an hour ago and I didn’t even call to let them know I wouldn’t be in.”

“Oh shit,” he moves past me not near as bothered, and I follow him to the living room where he plops on the couch.

“Yeah, and then I was thinking…how am I gonna get to work from here? It’s at least a 40-minute ride one way.”

“Hmm,” he bites his lip while scrolling his phone, “maybe you shouldn’t work there anymore.”

“What? But we need the money,” I sit next to him.

"It's not worth the gas kiddo. Besides, I don't want you down there where dad can walk in. I've been thinking…" he pauses and I have no clue what he's about to say. "I don't think we should find a house there either. I think we should find another area, maybe closer to here. Make sure we’re not running into him.”

I gulp hard thinking of leaving Cane Bay and Alyssa.

Another playful screech from the blonde at the pool catches Danny’s attention and I can’t get the wild scene out of my head from just moments ago, “Hey, who is that girl? With Jax?”

“Oh, that’s Alessandra. She’s a friend of his.”

Friend…

The front door opens, causing us both to look. It’s Jax, strutting in while toweling off again, “Hey man, a little privacy next time?”

Danny laughs, “Didn’t mean to break up the fun.”
