“Come on you know what I mean,” his eyes assess every inch of me settling on certain spots.

“No sir, I don’t actually,” I can’t help the snarl that’s come over my face.

He leans to my ear whispering, “I’ll make all your dreams come true doll face. You just have to grace me with that pretty little body of yours.” He retreats chuckling like he’s proud of himself and I see red.

My whole body erupts in fury but I know I have to be professional. I can’t lose it.

“That’s not appropriate sir, now if you’ll excuse me-“ I begin to walk off but his hand catches my arm.

“Sir!” I turn and raise my voice and some of the patrons look as well.

I quietly try to tear my arm free but his seedy smile still haunts me as he holds me still. I turn to put my whole body into yanking free and I pull so hard I almost fall. When I look back I realize it’s because the man let go.

He was being trailed away by a tall, dark man, far too elegant to be using such brute force. The older man is heftier than Jax but he still moves him with ease, his hand gripping the tip of his shirt and forcing him outside.

Some of the customers look at the door Jax just moved the man through and then to me and I adjust my apron trying to look normal as I leave the floor.

I walk as fast as I can, eyes burning with tears I don’t dare release and when I get to the server station someone is in there. I need privacy, so without a second thought, I yank open the broom closet door next to it and shut myself inside.

My tears finally roll down my cheeks from anger and from a stark familiarity of having a man trying to take advantage of me again. I want to scream! Yell! Tear something apart but I can’t. And I also can’t leave work. I have to get myself together and finish my day. My body vibrates with so many emotions as I fall against the back wall and then the door yanks open with fury and shuts with Jax inside.

He grabs my shoulders, “don’t do that!”

His body is vibrating as well, pulsing, and we’re even closer than we were this morning, our breaths intermingling now. His eyes trap mine but they don’t have to try because I wouldn’t want to look away even if I could.

“Don’t do what?” I tremble.

“Make me angry like that,” his breathing is labored, “people could get hurt.”

“I-, I didn’t mean to make you angry I’m so sorry,” my words come out slow and whispered as my heart flutters from having him so close, having him touch me. “I was trying to handle him.”

“The thought of someone else’s hands on you…” his face contorts like it’s in pain.

“I didn’t mean to. I told him to stop.” I try to convince him. I can’t get fired. I need this job…for Danny.

The back of his hand brushes down my cheek and my lips quiver.

“I know. It’s not your fault firefly…” his finger lands beneath my chin tilting me up to meet him and he presses his lips softly to mine, wincing as if he’s in pain before storming out of the closet.

I’m stuck, frozen, unsure of what just happened. My whole body is on fire. Did that really just happen? Does he…

Chapter 10

Jax

Fuck! I shouldn’t have done that. I shouldn’t have kissed her. I vowed to leave the angel alone.

I won’t do it again. I can’t do it again.

I storm out of the closet, through the dining room, and straight to my office, slamming my door.

I stayed as busy as I could the first week, with dad, making runs, having meetings, and getting the new club ready to open. I had to. Being in that house with her and at work, being able to watch her as often as I liked became my new drug.

The second week I just couldn’t help getting a bit closer. I spent more time here than I should have, watching her sweet little ass and long red hair swinging around the floor like a butterfly, smiling that sweet smile, dutiful and happy, light and innocent…it set my soul on fire.

That’s why she’s myfirefly.

My fist slams into my desk without even realizing it and the pain travels through my arm. My body is seething in anger as I pace the floor trying to control the growls bubbling up.
