“But I came to see you,” he frowns.

“And just like every other time, I told you I don’t want to see you. It’s not going to work out okay.” I peer to my side and comforted when I see Megan keeping an eye on me, in case I need back up.

“But you didn’t even give me a chance.”

“Look Kyle, I’m just not that into you,” a patron sitting next to him snorts a chuckle and Kyle’s face turns beet red.

His fist slams the bar, “but you should have given me a chance!” his voice raises to an uncomfortable level and my mouth opens to slam him a new one as Megan comes barging over as well.

Before I can say anything his body is jerked back and away from the bar, shirt twisted and strewn up in Jax’s thick fist, “She said to get the hell out of here man!” He growls at Kyle through gritted teeth and my jaw drops.

My heart is thumping a thousand beats a minute as I’m transported right back there to the doorway of my trailer watching him save me again.

“But-“ Kyle begins and Jax’s hand tightens on the shirt lifting his body a bit more, “okay okay!” he finally screeches as Jax blazes his eyes into him.

“Get out! And don’t come back!” Jax growls again and the immediate crowd around us goes quiet as Kyle tears his shirt from Jax’s hand and storms off looking like a two year old about to throw a tantrum.

I’m frozen, shocked and unsure where Jax even came from.

Megan’s words bring me back to reality, “Alright, alright! Show’s over folks, Get your drink, right here!”

She’s always got my back. She reminds me a lot of Alyssa sometimes. We do still talk from time to time, but since I had to venture into adult life a lot sooner than her, we kind of drifted apart.

“Who was that tall drink of water?”

My chest was rising and falling at a rapid pace and I couldn’t tell if it was because I was so turned on by Jax or so worked up from Kyle.

“An old friend,” I whisper.

“I’d like a friend like that. Like an old boyfriend?”

“My big brother’s best friend. We stayed with him one summer when we were going through a hard time.”

“Looks like he’s ready to remember that summer,” she shimmies flirtatiously and moves on to tend to a customer waiting in the corner.

I catch a wave of my own from another customer and meet him to ask what he needs.

“Check please.”

I nod and reach the cash register, pulling up his tab and cashing it out. The mirror on the wall of the bar flickers and when I look up I swear I see Jax in the reflection but when I look over my shoulder he’s not there.

About an hour later, the place begins to close down and after we cash everyone out, count the register and clean the area, Megan and I head out the back door together. A single street light makes the small employee parking lot glow as we walk to our cars that we strategically parked together.

A lot of cars are still in the lot and there’s a group of the staff off to the side chatting.

“Do you work tomorrow?”

“No, actually I’m off. And I could use the break.”

She nods, “hey what’s that on your car?”

As we get closer to my little blue sedan, I see a letter sized piece of paper strapped under a windshield wiper.

“I…don’t…know,” I reach my car and grab the paper out hurriedly.

When I turn it over, there’s a message on it.

I’m watching you.
