“I’m coming home to be with you that’s what!” We’re moving slowly, circling each other now.

I reach for the wood statue and she swipes it away holding in a batting position ready to hit me again.

“Alright! Alright!” My hands pat the air coaxing her, “Let’s start from the beginning. What is going on here?”

Her body rocks with her agitation as her lips curl, “What is going on is that you’re the one! You’re the stalker! You drugged me last night!” She swings again out of pure frustration and I’m almost able to grab the piece.

Two of my guards rush through the door with their override code and I hold a steady hand up to them as they have full intentions of tackling her, “NO! I’ve got this.” They look at me and then at her and back to me, “I’ve…got…this!” I bore my eyes into theirs and they back up. “Wait outside,” I instruct and they do.

In the second that I took my eyes off her and my guards leave, she drops the piece in her hand and races up the curved staircase. I spring behind her trying to catch up.

This is so not how I expected this evening to go.

She stays two steps ahead of me and makes it to my bedroom. Her back thumps the door once she’s inside, holding it and then I hear a crash on the wall. I ram the door it but it doesn’t budge.

“I busted the keypad in here. It’s locked now and you can’t get in!”

I bounce off the door chuckling in frustration, “well that’s great,” I huff, “great for me anyways because you’d have to have the code to open it. So you’re stuck with me.”

Silence fills the air between us and I know she’s kicking herself right now.

I know what’s going on now. I know she figured out that I’ve placed her here strategically…so nothing else could harm her. I had a feeling she would try to leave and I was prepared.

“Let me out of this house!” she roars.

My fist lifts to the door but softly lands in frustration, “I…can’t.”

Sobs fill her breath, “why not?”

“It’s not safe firefly.”

“Don’t call me that!”

“You need to calm down so we can talk,” my hand flattens on the door wishing so bad I could touch her, calm her, soothe her.

“Don’t tell me to calm down! I’m trapped…in this house, with a fucking psycho.”

“I’m not the psycho Chalene.”

“Well you’re not gonna win this one Jax! I won’t give up! I’ll never stop! I’ll get out. I’ll never stop trying to get out!”

The words I feared the most come flying out in rage and I turn and lean on the door.

“Dammit, don’t say that. I don’t want to have to trap you like this.”

“Then don’t!”

I can hear her pacing behind the door. I even hear her opening the closet door, probably looking for another weapon. I hear her go to the window, growling in frustration when she sees there’s no way to open it.

A yell comes from deep inside, “You sicko! You planned this! All along didn’t you.” She kicks the door and I feel the slight shake.

“I had hoped it wouldn’t come to this. This is for your own good though. I promise,” I try to remain calm but my insides are tore to shreds.

I know her, and her words are not empty. She’ll never stop trying. I can’t let her leave. I spent the afternoon tracking down her father and reminding him of our last encounter. He deserved the beating he got for even inquiring about her again, but he’s not the culprit. He’s not the one who left the note.

A sarcastic laugh fills the room behind me, “So YOU are the stalker! You left the note on my car didn’t you? In some elaborate scheme to get me here and trap me?” She growls again, “Oh my God! All this time I had some school girl crush on you and you were a weirdo the whole time.”

“I didn’t write the note. I’m not the one who’s been following you. Well, I have but only to keep you safe,” I hear her gasp. “I’m not the one who is after you. I would never try to scare you,” I crawl to my knees hopeful from the intense quiet that’s come over her.
