The guys said bye and the new guy, Rowan, thanked me for letting him crash the party and congratulated me on the baby. They all headed out, Braxton and Gyth with their sons crashed on their shoulders and Embry still wired, hanging on to Jurnee’s hand.

That girl had a motor that could run forever.

“Maybe Uncle Kace can stay with you,” Embry blurted out as they had just hit the hall and the door had not been shut yet.

My face turned a beet red, as her mother said, “Oh my child, we need to get you a muzzle.” Completely joking, of course, Embry just laughed like she thought that was hilarious and they took off down the hall. “Sorry,” Jurnee said last minute before she was out of earshot.

Just standing inside the door, Denver sleeping in my arms, I looked at Kace.

“You want me to stay?”

I nodded yes and whispered, “Please.”

He slowly shut the door.

ChapterTwenty-Three

KACE

I had knownit was coming.

“So glad you took my advice,” Alley said as she sidled up on one side of me.

My eyes were glued to Teal and Denver so I didn’t bother glancing in Alley’s direction. I didn’t need to see her to know she had apleased with herselflook on her face, I could hear it in her tone. Besides, I was too busy making sure that Teal didn’t get too tired in case I needed to kick everyone out so she and the baby could rest.

When I remained quiet the bulldog kept going.

“You’re in love with her, aren’t you?”

That did have my head swiveling in her direction. My thoughts in the hospital may have started to go in that direction but I hadn’t fully admitted it to myself and certainly not anyone else. Hearing Alley voice it out loud had my pulse ramping up.

I looked back toward Teal and Denver one more time and one word came to mind.

Mine.

That was when I knew Alley was right, but she didn’t need to know that, especially when I hadn’t even told the woman I was in love with that I loved her.

I looked back at Alley and said, “I’m not telling you anything.”

She giggled and with a triumphant look on her face, she said, “You just did by the way you just looked longingly at those two.”

Then the brat marched off.

Maybe I should just kick her out.

ChapterTwenty-Four

TEAL

All the breathswooshed out of my lungs.

My sweet baby had been sleeping when I ran to take a shower. Having taken the baby monitor in the bathroom with me, I heard exactly when he started to cry, but with shampoo in my hair and running in my eyes, I had to frantically wash it out before I could go to him.

Not wanting to wake Kace who had a late night at work the previous evening, I grabbed my oversized t-shirt and threw on a pair of panties, then ran for Denver’s room. When I got there, my baby was gone. Just as I was about to go into panic mode, I heard a deep, masculine voice that sent goosebumps over every inch of my body, calling out to me.

“In here, Little Momma.”

I turned, making my way slightly down the hall, and walked into the extra bedroom through the open door to find the most adorable and heart-melting sight before me.
