"Why?" I said, looking at him in his smart suit. He looked hot as hell, and I could picture him taking off every item of clothing before he made love to me.

"Don't you think this is a little formal?" He pulled off his suit jacket and draped it over his arm. Then he undid the top button of his shirt, and I had a feeling he was teasing me.

"I don't mind," I said, twirling around in my dress, letting the soft material flutter against my legs. "What do you think about what I'm wearing?" I finally stopped and placed my hands on my hips.

"Do you really have to ask that question?" he asked me, gazing at my legs. I shimmied slightly in my heels and moved my head back and forth.

"Well, I just don't know if it's too much." I laughed coquettishly and moved closer to him.

"Yes, it's too much"—he laughed—"but I don't mind." He walked up to me slowly, and I felt his eyes on my lips. I wondered if he was going to kiss me. I wanted him to. I wouldn't say no. In fact, I was tempted to reach up and put my hands around his neck and pull him down toward me. His blue-gray eyes looked amused as he stared at me.

"What are you thinking about, Rosalie?" he asked me softly.

"Wouldn't you like to know?" I said with a soft little smile.

"Yes. I very much would like to know." His voice was deep and hoarse now. I could see him swallowing as I took another step closer to him. My fingers reached up and undid the next button on his shirt.

"I was thinking that…" I paused and licked my lips as I undid another button and rubbed my fingers against the exposed chest hair.

"Continue." His voice was hoarse, his eyes dark with desire as I offered him an impish little smile.

"I was thinking that if you're going to change...” I stepped back and pulled my fingers away from his chest. “Then you should do it quickly. I'm ready to get out of here. I'm ready to go to this Ritz-Carlton."

"Okay," he said, nodding, his eyes narrowed. "I will change then."

“And maybe we can dance?” I moved my hips back and forth and started to dance seductively, but of course, my stupid heels got in the way, and I tripped on my own feet and fell forward. Oliver deftly caught me in his arms, laughter in his eyes as he helped me gather my balance.

“Perhaps.” He smiled at me for a couple of seconds and then walked past me into his room. I took a couple of deep breaths as I watched him close the door behind him. Holy shit, that had been hot. The banter that we had turned me on more than anyone else had ever turned me on before in my life. I'd had boyfriends. I'd gone to second base and even third base. I just hadn't gone all the way yet. I wasn't sure why. It wasn't like I was saving myself for marriage or anything like that. I guess I'd just been waiting for the right man. The man who made me feel sexy and wanted and turned me on more than anyone else.

If I was honest with myself, I always compared men I'd met to Oliver because even though I couldn't stand him and even though I hadn’t talked to him in years, the way he made me feel was still the gold standard in any relationship. And I'd never even dated Oliver. He had just been my brother's best friend, but there was something about the way he looked at me. He had always been able to make my blood pressure rise and skin tingle.

I stood there waiting on him to come out of the room. He’d changed into a pair of black slacks and a crisp gray shirt. I stared at him, not knowing what to say. He looked handsome no matter what he was wearing.

"Ready to go?" He looked at his watch.

"I am," I said. "Are we walking or taxi or are you driving?"

"Taxi.” He grinned. “I don’t think tonight is a night for driving.” We walked toward the door, and he grabbed my hand. "Hey, Rosalie, I wanted to say something."

"Yes, Oliver."

I looked up at him, my heart pounding. This was it. This was the moment he was going to tell me that he was so glad I was here and that he'd been waiting for this moment all his life. I was here for it. I couldn't wait.

"So..." He paused.

"Yes," I said softly.

"I just wanted to say I hope you have a good time tonight."

"I’m sure I will," I said, winking at him.

"Good because..." He cleared his throat, and I realized that whatever he wanted to say was not going to be the romantic moment I’d been waiting for my entire life.

"Don't worry, Oliver. Let's not talk about it. Let's just enjoy tonight, okay?"

"Okay," he said, glancing down at my cleavage. He bit down on his lower lip. "A part of me doesn't even want to go."

"I know," I said, giggling. "I mean, we don't really have to go. We could stay here. Though I do like to be wined and dined."
