"Yeah, I did study Shakespeare."

"I like Shakespeare," he said and then made a face. "Sorry, I can't lie. I've only read one of Shakespeare's works."

"Oh, and which one was that?"

"Macbeth," he said, laughing.

"Oh, you readMacbeth?" I was surprised. That's not normally the first Shakespeare piece people read.

"I didn't have a choice. We studied it in English in high school." He smiled. "Busted, I guess."

"No, it's okay. So..." I was about to ask him another question when he made a face.

"Oops. I guess we should talk after he's finished his speech." I nodded and looked up. I could see that Oliver was staring at me as he spoke. His eyes were narrowed, and he didn’t look happy. It had been kind of rude to have a conversation with a brand-new guy, especially as I was sitting at the front of the room. I pressed my lips together and smiled at him. He didn't smile back.

He finished his talk in about five minutes, and I watched as Kramer and two other older men walked up to him and handed him a plaque. They all stood on the stage and posed for photographs, and then everyone started clapping again, and people stood.

"So would you like a drink, Rosalie?" Chad asked me as we both stood.

"I think I need one," I said with a small nod.

"Come, there's wine over here." He led me to the side of the room with a table full of glasses. "Prefer white or red?"

"I'll have some red, please."

"And here you go," he said, handing me a glass. "So do you have a job yet, or..." I shook my head.

"Not yet. I'm hoping to find one soon, though. Then I'll have enough money to get my own place and..."

"Yeah, I feel you. It's hard when you’ve just graduated. Unless you have parents who are billionaires and want to buy you a place."

"Yeah, I wish," I said, laughing. "My parents barely got me the plane ticket to come here."

"Aw," he said. "I mean, I make a good salary, but I also have a lot of debt from law school, you know?"

"Cool."

"I went to Yale."

"Oh," I said, smiling.

"Yeah, it's the number one law school."

"Oh cool. Congratulations."

"Doesn't really matter now. But it did help me get this job, and I figured it might impress you…" He paused. "But you don't really know anything about law school, so I guess that didn't really work."

"It's okay. You don't have to impress me."

"Well, I was hoping that I could..."

"Rosalie." Oliver's deep voice sounded from behind me. I turned around with a small smile.

"Hey, Oliver. Good speech. Congratulations."

"Hmm. Are you sure you heard it? You seemed to be busy talking." He looked past me at Chad. "Chad."

"Hi, Mr. James. I was just getting Rosalie some wine and..."
