"I see." Oliver looked at the glass in my hand. "Should you be drinking?"

"Um, I'm over twenty-one. I can drink."

"Yes, but you haven't had dinner yet."

"So?" I rolled my eyes.

"So I don't want the alcohol to go to your brain and for you to make rash and stupid decisions."

"I think I can handle one glass of alcohol. Thanks, though." I looked at Chad, who looked slightly uncomfortable.

"So Oliver, I just wanted to say that..."

"Not right now, Chad." Oliver shook his head. "Rosalie, can I speak to you over here?"

"What?"

"I'd like to speak to you in private, please."

"Okay." I looked over at Chad. "I'll be right back."

"Okay," he said, clutching the glass in his hand tightly. Oliver and I walked about ten feet away and stopped.

"What do you think you're doing," he said angrily.

"What are you talking about?"

"You came here to pick up a guy who works with me."

"What?" My jaw dropped. "What are you talking about, Oliver?"

"You're flirting with Chad. You know he's a first-year associate. He needs to concentrate on his work to make a bonus and not on—"

"Um, number one, Oliver, if you’ll recall, I didn't even know I was coming to your work event. So no, I didn't come to pick up a guy who you work with. Number two, Chad started speaking to me. And number three, if I do want to flirt with him, and date him, and whatever else, that's up to me. I can do whatever I want. I'm a big girl."

"So you admit you're interested in him."

"Oliver, I don't know what your problem is, but I think you need to do something else right now."

"Excuse me?"

"I'm sure Little Miss Diana must be looking for you. Like you're her little puppy dog."

"I don't give a shit about Diana."

"Well, tell Diana that. Because if looks could kill, I'd be dead right now."

"I already told you..."

"Oliver, I'm not playing these games with you. Is there anything else you have to say?"

"Yes, we're leaving in five minutes."

"What do you mean we're leaving in five minutes? Isn't this, like, meant to be the good part of the whole evening?"

"We're going to get something to eat."

"I'm fine. I'll have some hors d'oeuvres and some wine."
