“I seem to remember that you used to love it when we analyzed your every move...remember all those quizzes we took in that magazine you loved? What was it called again?Seventeen?”

“SeventeenandCosmo?” I giggled. I had loved taking those quizzes, and oftentimes, Oliver would take them with me. I’d forgotten about that.

“So I thought...” He paused as I rubbed my stomach. “Everything okay?”

"Can you please just grab two of my suitcases so we can go to your car? I don't have time for this." I could hear my stomach then, and he started laughing.

"Are you hungry?"

"I mean, a little bit. The flight wasn't that long, but they only gave us peanuts. I mean, would it have hurt them to give us a meal as well?"

"You weren't in business class, were you?"

"No, I was in economy, but should that make a difference? Is it right that only rich people get to eat on planes?"

"I don't think it's right," he said with a small smile, "but that's just the way it is. You get what you pay for."

"Well, my parents paid for this ticket begrudgingly, so it's not like I could really say much." I looked at him for a couple of seconds. We grabbed the suitcases and started walking. "So you're an attorney now, huh?"

"Yep." He nodded. "The suit didn't give me away?"

"I mean, you could have been a broker like my brother."

"No, I'm not interested in finances and stocks and stuff."

"So what sort of law do you practice?"

"Corporate law."

It was my turn for my lips to twitch. "You study corporate law, but you're not interested in finances and stocks and—"

"Hey"—he shrugged—"I deal with tax cases involving the Federal Tax Code. It's not fun, but it pays well. And—”

"You're boring me," I said, yawning.

"Oh sorry, I didn't want to bore someone like you." He raised his eyebrows and pressed his lips together. I felt confused and annoyed at the same time. Was he being condescending?

"What do you mean someone likeme?"

"I mean someone who's living a life of luxury, someone who doesn't have to worry about getting a job."

"Of course, I have to worry about getting a job." I glared at him. "That's why I'm here. To look for a job and figure out what I want to do with my life. But I don't want to be a lawyer. And I don't care about finances or taxes or—”

"So I guess that rules out H&R Block from your list."

"Um, who?"

He started laughing then. "The tax firm? They prepare your taxes at tax time so you can get a tax refund. You’ve never heard of them?"

"I've never gotten a tax refund. My parents have always claimed me," I admitted guiltily. I knew I had lived a sheltered life, but my past didn’t matter now because I was on my own. At least financially. My parents had given me a thousand dollars and told me that any further money I needed had to be made by myself. They’d even taken away two of my credit cards and only left me with an AMEX for emergency purposes, which they’d told me would be closed if I used it for anything other than an emergency. These were hard times. I knew I was spoiled. Not that I’d admit that to Oliver Rose, though.

"Ah, makes sense."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"I'm just saying it makes sense. You've never had a job so you wouldn't pay taxes."

"You think I'm an immaturelittle girl, don't you? You think..." I stopped and glared at him.
