"I mean, no, you can't keep calling her."

“Yes, I can. She's my best friend."

"What are you going to call her about now?"

"I was just going to call her and tell her that we're trying to figure out an option for where we're both going to sleep."

"Uh-huh. You spoke to her earlier, and you said that you would figure it out when she got here, right?"

"Yeah. And we haven't."

"Actually, Oliver and I have come up with a plan."

"Oh yeah? What's the plan?" I asked, narrowing my eyes.

"Well, I figured you can sleep with Oliver, and Alice sleeps with me."

"What?" I said, my jaw dropping. I couldn't believe he just said that. Was Oliver trying to get me into his bed after all? Foster started laughing when he saw the expression on my face.

"Oh my gosh. Of course not, Rosalie. Oliver doesn't want to sleep with you. And I certainly don't want to sleep with Alice."

That stung more than he knew.

"Well, we don't want to sleep with you guys either. So what's the plan?"

"He'll tell you at dinner," he said.

"Okay, I hope it's going to be good for all this suspense."

"Oh, Rosalie," he said, "Now just keep the music down. Okay? I need to finish up some work. Just because I left early doesn't mean I don't have anything to do."

"Well, bully for you. I'm looking for jobs. So please stop bothering me as well."

"You're looking for jobs while blasting Pink and scrolling on your phone?"

"I'm looking for jobs on my phone. Thank you very much."

"Uh-huh. Sure you are."

"You do know that a smartphone has the internet on it, right, Foster? Or are you still stuck in the 1700s?"

"I know it's much easier to look for jobs on your laptop. That way, the screen is bigger, and you can actually read what qualifications are needed for the positions."

"Blah, blah, blah," I said in return. "You can go back to your room now, Foster."

He stared at me for a couple of seconds and shook his head.

"You know what? You're lucky I just got to town because I'm going to go easy on you right now, Rosalie. But if you still have that attitude in a week—"

"Whatever, Foster. Please don't go all daddy on me. You're my big brother. You're not Dad."

"Yeah. Well, Dad told me that I'm in charge while you're living with me. And I want to make sure that you—"

"Foster, really? Listen to yourself. Also, never have kids because you would be the most annoying father ever."

He smiled at me then.

"I can't say what sort of mother you would be because I don't even think there are words in the dictionary."
