“I’ll let Marina fill you in on that development,” Law says, shuffling his feet. “I brought a radio, puzzles, nail polish—”

“Nail polish?”

“Katina helped,” he smirks.

“Good ol’ Katina,” I snicker.

“Katina?” Maggie asks.

“I’ll fill you in on her later too. But most of what you need to know is that Katina has become an unlikely friend during my stay here at Julian’s.”

Law sets the box on the bed and I start sifting through it. I pull out something that looks like an old phone. I hold it up in question.

“Music. My playlist is on it,” Law explains.

I turn it on and start scrolling through. “White Reaper?” I raise a brow, shocked he’d know about my favorite band. He shrugs. “What can I say? I woke up with a curse.”

I grin at his use of the first lines of my absolute favorite song.

“I knew I liked you,” I beam, and he winks.

“I’ll be back in a few hours. I’ll bring home pizza,” he calls over his shoulder, making his way to the door.

“And two cherry Cokes,” I say, hands folded in prayer.

“Obviously.” He grins. “Have fun. I’ll see you two later.”

I don’t miss the way he looks at my sister. As though the sun doesn’t shine in her absence. Like his whole world revolves around her. It makes me miss Julian.

“Law,” I call out, and he turns right outside the door. “When will Julian be back?”

“Don’t worry, Rean-Bean, he’ll be back tonight.”

“Rean-Bean?” I pull a face. “That’s a new one.”

Maggie chuckles with a brow raise and I shrug.

I can hardly focus on anything other than what he said. Julian will be here tonight. My stomach tingles with butterflies at the thought of seeing him. Having my sister here is more than I could’ve ever asked for, but Julian has imprinted himself on my heart. Ineedhim.

“Oh boy. Looks like you’ve got it bad,” Maggie says, grinning from ear to ear. “We’d better get you cleaned up and put some color back in those sallow cheeks of yours.”

My hands fly to my cheeks. “Do I really look that bad?”

She giggles. “I’m teasing, but you could use a little makeover.”

I shove at her playfully. “Stop freaking me out. I don’t want to look like death when he gets here.”

“Then we’d better get started now,” Maggie teases, and I glare in her direction.

Despite the long road ahead of us, dealing with Marcellus and all the mystery surrounding the journals can wait for one night. Right now, I want to reconnect with my sister.

Maggie and I curl up next to each other on the bed. All the anger and frustration slowly evaporates. It’s hard to not be hurt from being kept in the dark, but I understand the why behind it. Right now, I just want to bask in the fact that she’s alive and here.

“No more secrets. From here on out, we tell each other everything.” My eyes meet hers.

She nods her head vigorously. “Agree.”

“Starting with what’s going on with you and Law.”
