“I… I’m—” My voice breaks.

“Keep going,” Kade orders, and I’m not sure if he’s talking to me or Gabriel.

When Gabriel adds a third finger and starts pulsing his lips around my clit, I dive right over the edge, my pussy clamping around his fingers as I cry out my release. The sound is swallowed by Kade’s lips against mine, and I ride the wave of my orgasm while continuing to pump my hand up and down Kade’s cock. His grip on me tightens a moment later and he growls against my lips, his release spurting over my hand, coating it in warmth.

Kade snags his shirt off the floor and cleans us up while Gabriel drags his tongue along my slit, tasting me. He presses his lips against my skin just below my navel and peers up at me. “Exquisite,” he murmurs, making my cheeks flush as I try to catch my breath.

“Agreed,” Kade says, kissing me chastely before sliding off the bed and walking toward his en suite bathroom. I can’t help but watch as he goes. That man was chiseled by gods, I swear.

Gabriel crawls over me in Kade’s absence, tilting my chin up to seal his lips over mine. His mouth tastes a little like melon, and a rush of heat floods through me when I realize I’m tasting myself on his lips. My fingers glide over his shoulder, and I grip the back of his hair, kissing him deeper, hoping he can feel how glad I am to be with him again. I fucking missed him—missed all of them. And I’m going to do whatever it takes to make sure Selene doesn’t come between us.

Gabriel

Over the next twenty-four hours, a brand new, high-end security system is installed on the property. The existing one we had when the house was built was good enough until Calla came along. With recent developments, something more high tech is necessary. This system includes sensors on every door and window on all three levels of the house as well as cameras that cover every square inch of the property. Marcel also met with and hired a team of security guards to remotely monitor the feed constantly.

Between that and the four of us, there’s not a chance in hell Selene will be able to touch Calla again. We haven’t heard from her since Calla returned to us yesterday, but I have to assume there’s a ticking clock on her threat against Calla’s mortality. We’ll kill Selene before she ever has a chance to get her fangs near Calla again. My stomach is in knots over it still. After being with Calla last night, I can’t stop thinking about how we almost lost her. I would go back to Selene in a heartbeat if I knew it would keep Calla safe, but the others refuse to allow it to happen. They are confident she is safe here with us, but they don’t know Selene like I do… The woman is deceitful and manipulative. She gets her way every time, no matter who gets hurt in the process. I’ve seen it too many times to count. I gave her what she wanted at the expense of others more times than I’d like to admit during my time with her decades ago.

I drag a hand down my face, cradling a mug of microwaved blood in my other hand. I’ve been sitting in the dark at the dining room table for over an hour now. It’s long past midnight, and everyone else is sleeping, but every time I close my eyes, nightmares from my past flash before me, and I jolt upright, wide awake.

“You can’t sleep either?” a soft voice says, and I look up to find Calla padding across the floor in her bare feet. She’s wearing one of Kade’s old T-shirts, and it falls just above her knees, hugging her curves in a way that has me shifting where I sit. With her hair tied up in a messy bun and the soft scent of her rose body wash clinging to her skin, I want to bury my face in her neck and hold her until the nightmares are chased away.

I shake my head, taking a drink of blood. “Are you all right, angel?”

She sighs, dropping into the chair across from me, and offers a faint smile. “Defineall right.”

My lips drop into a frown. “You know you’re safe here, don’t you?”

Calla bites her lip, glancing down at her lap. “Yeah. I just… How long until Selene’s blood and venom are out of my system? Like, for sure?”

I tap my fingers against the side of my mug. I can see the concern on her face, in the way her eyes flick between mine and gleam with uncertainty. I want to take that away, reassure her everything will be fine, but the truth is, Selene is capable of far greater evil than I hope she—or the others—will ever know. “A few days.”

She nods absently, finally looking at me. “Will you tell me about her?”

My forehead creases when I lift my brows at her in surprise. “About Selene?” I check, unease swirling deep in my stomach.

“Yeah. I mean, how did you meet? She turned you into a vampire, so I have to assume she was important to you. You’re clearly important to her, so much so, she wanted to ensure you would live forever.” She grips the back of her neck as she shifts in her chair. I don’t like how uncomfortable she is.

“Selene cares about very few things, Calla,” I tell her in a soft voice. “Back then, I… I thought what we had was love. I was very wrong. She manipulated me, glamoured me most of the time we were together, which of course I didn’t realize until much later.”

Her face is several shades paler than when she sat down. “After you turned?”

Nodding, I admit, “I didn’t want to be a vampire. When I discovered what Selene was, I wanted to run. I was terrified. But I also cared about her a great deal, so I stayed. She was different then—at least, she made me believe that she was. Kind and gentle; she would never hurt anyone and would survive off donated blood, much like we do now.”

Calla frowns. “When did that change?”

I inhale slowly. Searching through memories of that time isn’t easy for me, but I want to tell her everything I know. Answer any questions she has, because after keeping her in the dark for so long, it’s the least she deserves. “It wasn’t all at once. There were small things here and there. And then one night, she wanted me to taste her blood. We had been…”

“Fucking,” Calla offers.

I exhale a humorless laugh. “Yes. She had bitten me—it wasn’t the first time, but the first time while we were intimate. With my blood still on her lips, she used her fingernail and sliced into her throat, beckoning me to drink from her.” I close my eyes for a moment, shuddering at the memory, at how clear it still is all these years later.

“Gabriel,” Calla murmurs, and a moment later, her hands wrap around mine. “You don’t have to tell me. I can’t imagine what you went through at her hands. If thinking about it brings you pain, I… I don’t want that.”

I open my eyes, dropping my gaze to our hands. The way her thumb is brushing over my skin eases the tension in my chest somewhat, and I manage a small smile. “It’s okay, angel. You should know what we’re up against.”

She nods and continues holding my hands.
