“I didn’t want to drink her blood. The very thought of it made me nauseous. I tried to refuse her, Ididrefuse her. But she glamoured me; made me think Iwantedit.” I shake my head. “She may as well have turned me that night.”

Calla’s brows knit. “When did she turn you?”

“Not for months after that. I think she enjoyed being able to feed on me, but she also got satisfaction from me drinking her blood as a human, even though she glamoured me into it every time.” I take a deep breath. “When she did turn me, I was angry and scared and confused. My body went through so many changes at once and everything was overwhelming. I didn’t know what to do. I relied on her for a time. She was all I knew, so I didn’t have much of a choice. I… I did a lot of terrible things I’ll never be able to take back. A lot of people died because of me. One day, it was as if I just woke up. I remembered everything she did to me as a human—the pain she caused me and seemingly everyone around us. So, I left. Packed a bag in the middle of the night and never looked back. I had a lot of growing pains and relearning to do when it came to being a vampire apart from Selene, but luckily, Lex and Atlas found me not long after. Everything since then has been okay.”

Her jaw clenches and her fingers grip mine with a surprising amount of strength. “Selene deserves to rot in hell for what she did to you.” Her voice shakes with anger—anger that’s reflected in the darkness of her eyes. There’s also exhaustion there in the form of shadows under her lashes.

“Her day will come,” I assure her. “Atlas, Kade, and Lex will make sure of it.”

“What about you?”

“She’s my sire, so I can’t directly bring her any harm.”

She shakes her head. “That’s not fair.”

I shrug. “No, but I know what needs to happen will. I’ve made peace with everything else.”

Calla stares at me for a moment. “I’ve never met anyone like you, Gabriel.”

More of the tension in my muscles releases, and the smile I give her feels more genuine and less forced this time. “I could say the same for you.”

Her cheeks flush. “I really missed you.”

I meet her gaze and pull a hand away from her grip to brush my fingers across her cheek. “That week you were gone was the longest of my existence, angel.”

Tears gather in her beautiful eyes, making them glassy. “I’ll try not to get kidnapped again,” she says dryly with a weak laugh.

I chuckle in response, running my thumb along her jaw. “I hope despite what happened with Selene that you’ll believe me when I say that we won’t let anyone hurt you ever again.”

She drops my gaze, licking her lips and sniffling. “I appreciate the sentiment, but you can’t make that promise.” She quickly wipes under her eyes before looking at me again. “And I don’t expect you to. Atlas warned me that your world is dangerous for humans. I get it. And I’m going to do everything in my power to ensure my own safety.”

My eyes lock on hers, and the fierceness in her gaze makes my cock harden. Despite everything she’s been through in the last five and a half weeks since the night we broke into her apartment, she hasn’t lost her fire. Pride fills my chest, and I stand, moving around the table with a speed too quick for her eyes to follow.

She sucks in a breath, swiveling to face me with flushed cheeks. “What?” she breathes.

I cup her chin, tilting her head back so she’s looking into my eyes as my lips pull up into a smile. “I didn’t get enough of you last night.”

Calla’s eyes widen slightly, and she bites down on her lip, making me long to do the same. To claim her mouth and her body as mine.

Without warning, I grip her hips and lift her onto the table, pushing the chair out of the way with my foot before my mouth descends upon hers. She immediately softens against me, leaning in and draping her arms over my shoulders. I tighten my grip on her hips, then slide my hands up her thighs, gathering the material of Kade’s shirt as I go.

“Gabriel,” she murmurs against my lips, and my cock twitches in my pants.

I bite back a groan; I want to take my time with her.

Pulling back just enough to see her face, I say, “What is it, angel?”

She pulls back and grips my forearms. “Should we really do this? Here, I mean?”

I press my lower half into her, stealing her breath, and the little sound she makes drives the beast inside me wild. “I’m not waiting another minute to have you. Let the entire house hear us.” I claim her mouth once more, pushing the hardness between my legs against the heat between hers until she wraps her bare legs around me, digging her heels in to pull me closer. My tongue darts out and flicks along her lower lip until she opens to me, and I deepen the kiss, grazing her tongue with mine. Her hands slide into my hair as her hips desperately try grinding against me, and when she makes a frustrated sound against my lips, I can’t help but chuckle. Leaning back, I murmur, “Tell me what you want.”

Her fingers grip the back of my hair. “Ineedyou.”

A shiver trickles down my spine, filling me with heat as I look over her pink-tinged face. I draw one hand up to cup her cheek while the other rests on her bare thigh, and kiss the tip of her nose. “You have me. Always.”

A hint of a smile touches her lips, making my heart beat faster. The things this woman does to me… I’ll never get tired of them. “Let me rephrase,” she says, “I need youinside me.”

I grin at her, brushing my thumb along her jaw. “Sounds like someone needs to learn patience.”
