There’s a woman standing in the middle of the lawn, her black hair blowing in the gentle morning breeze. She looks eerily familiar, though I can’t place her, which makes it even more confusing that she’s here. As is the silver of her eyes—she’s a vampire.
I walk down the few concrete steps and join the guys facing off with the woman. “I—” My voice gets caught in my throat when I look at Kade. His face has gone white as a ghost, and the others are tense where they stand on either side of him.
“Calla, go—” Lex starts.
“Who is that?” I ask, cutting him off.
“She… she’s my sister,” Kade forces out, his voice strained.
My brows knit when the vampire steps forward, offering a fanged smirk as her eyes sweep across the vampires in front of her before focusing on Kade. “Long time no see, baby bro.”
Before Kade or the others can respond, a sharp growl of pain fills the air.
My eyes go wide as she steps away from Kade, leaving the blunt end of a dagger sticking out of his chest before disappearing into the trees at the side of the property, Lex snarling and moving in a blur to go after her.
Kade’s silver gaze meets mine, and for the briefest of moments, I see fear in his eyes. He blinks at me, then crumples to the ground as Atlas moves to catch him, and a scream tears its way up my throat.
