It takes everything in me not to take a shot at pushing him into the river.

We walk in silence most of the way to campus until my stomach grumbles. I hadn’t been hungry when I met up with Brighton, and as upset as I still am, I can’t deny the pang of emptiness in my stomach.

Kade casts a sideways glance in my direction and arches a brow. “I heard that. We can stop at the Starbucks on M Street.”

“I’m fine,” I mutter, picking up my pace.

He catches my arm and pulls me back before pushing me against the side of a building, almost making me drop my book bag. “What you did was incredibly stupid.”

My gaze whips around to make sure no one is looking, because this can’t look very good, but we’re on one of the quiet side streets; there’s no one in sight. I scowl at him. “And what you did was incredibly invasive and wrong.”

A muscle feathers along his jaw, and he shakes his head slowly, as if he’s trying to control himself. “You have no fucking clue, Calla. None.”

“And whose fault is that?” I fire back.

His silver eyes flare with anger, and he moves closer, pressing me into the cold brick. “You do something like that again, and you’ll never see the outside of our house again. Understand?”

I glare at him. “You know, I thought you were the fun one and Atlas was the high-handed asshole.” I tilt my chin up to meet his gaze and lower my voice. “I don’t much like this look on you.”

For a moment, he says nothing. His grip on my shoulders remains, and he just stares into my eyes. “No?” he finally whispers. “You prefer the look of me between your legs, don’t you?”

My stomach clenches as his eyes drop to my mouth. “Honestly? Yeah.” No sense in lying now. “And considering we can’t do that here, I guess we better just go to class.”

Still, he doesn’t move. His gaze is locked on my lips, and it takes everything in me not to lick them, to beg him to kiss me. Because as pissed as I am about what happened with Brighton, I can’t deny the way my body wants him. His exhale stirs the hair at my temple.

“Hmm.” He steps back and waits for me to start walking before he falls into step beside me.

After a quick stop for food and caffeine, we get to campus and slip inside the lecture hall just as Professor Fischer opens her laptop at the front of the room. Some higher power must be looking out for me today, because there are still open seats in the corner of the room by the exit. I quickly take one of them and drag Kade down into the one next to me. The lights flick off, drowning the room in darkness as Fischer gestures to the projector screen behind her and starts talking about this week’s reading.

I pull out my notebook and struggle with the little wooden table folded against the side of the theatre-style chair until it finally comes out, creaking as I secure it into place. Clicking my pen open, I do my best to pretend Kade isn’t here and focus on the lecture.

It works… for about five minutes.

I can feel his eyes on me even in the dark, and his cologne is clouding my brain; he smells annoyingly good. The last thing I need is a distraction from my schoolwork, but evidently, my body didn’t get the memo. I press my thighs together to sate the throbbing between them, and my cheeks burn when Kade chuckles under his breath.

Fucking vampire senses.

“Shut up,” I hiss, keeping my eyes on the screen. The words could be in German for all I can tell at this point. My pulse is thunder beneath my skin, and it jackhammers when Kade reaches over and slides his hand up my leg. I suddenly wish I’d worn a dress today instead of high-waisted pants, because as much as I should push his hand away, I want nothing more than to press it against my core.

“Shh…” His lips are at my ear, and my eyes flutter shut.

“You can’t,” I whisper unevenly.

“I can,” he says, and I can hear the smirk in his voice, “but you need to keep quiet.”

I wet my lips, then press them together and open my legs a little. My heartbeat is in my throat, and I’m gripping the wooden arms of the chair as if I’m on a rollercoaster that’s about to drop.

Kade flicks his tongue against the skin below my ear, and my breath catches as my eyes fly open. I force them to stay on the screen at the front of the room, though I haven’t a clue what Fischer is talking about. Kade’s fingers trail along the inside of my thigh, and I curse the universe for the existence of pants. He presses his lips against my neck, kissing and sucking gently, and when his hand cups me through my pants, the air halts in my lungs, and I clench my jaw to keep from making a sound.

“Good girl,” he murmurs against my skin, pressing his thumb over my clit as his other fingers rub up and down and then in circles until my breathing quickens. My chest rises and falls quickly, and I desperately want his fingers inside me. He might be able to make me come this way, but it will feel so much better if he is actuallyinmy pants.

“Kade,” I whisper breathlessly, struggling to keep my eyes on the presentation.

His fingers stop moving and he says, “I know what you want.”

I nod, finally looking at him to find his gaze filled with lust. A reflection of mine, I’m sure. “We should go.” I can’t remember the last time I left a lecture early, but I’m more than willing right now.
