I shiver, fighting the urge to close my eyes. “Same here,” I lie. That lecture was the most exciting one I’ve attended all semester.

“Oh yeah?” he asks, then presses his lips against the skin just below my ear. His tongue flicks out, and I hold my breath.

“Lex…” I whisper.

“I want to fuck you against the counter,” he murmurs, and my stomach clenches. “I’d lay you down on the marble and spread those lovely thighs of yours. I’d have you screaming so fast you wouldn’t have a chance to be embarrassed that the entire house could hear you moan my name. Though I do enjoy that beautiful pink your cheeks go when you blush.”

The heat in my belly spreads lower, making my core throb with desire. My pulse kicks up and it quickly becomes hard to swallow.

“What do you think?” he asks, nipping my earlobe. Without warning, he turns me around and presses me into the counter next to the stovetop. “There’s that blush I enjoy,” he says with a wink.

I bite my lip, my eyes flicking between his as I lift my hand to his chest, running my fingers upward slowly. His black sweater is soft to the touch; I have the fleeting idea to steal it for myself, though I have a feeling he’d remove it pretty easily if I asked right now. I inhale slowly, overwhelmed by his scent now that I’m facing him. I lean up on my tiptoes and brush my lips across his. “I have no idea what I’m doing.” I repeat the words, though I’m no longer talking about cooking.

“You’re doing just fine,” he says in a low voice, kissing the corner of my mouth, coaxing me to keep going.

I thread my fingers together behind his neck and lean in until we’re pressed against each other. I kiss him again, longer and deeper, my heart hammering in my chest. My eyes close as Lex deepens the kiss, his tongue darting out to tease my lips until they part to let him in. I gasp into his mouth when he presses his lower half into me and his erection finds the throbbing between my legs.

“Fuck,” he growls against my lips, kissing me harder.

My head spins, and I feel light enough to float away. I grind against him, desperate to ease the ache at my core, but I can’t get him close enough to do much besides feed the friction there.

“Calla.” There’s a warning in his voice.

I ignore it. “Just… kiss me,” I plead, gripping the hair at the back of his neck.

He tips my head back and seals his lips over mine once more. We move together as if we’ve known each other for years, completely in sync. And when his fangs extend and slice into my bottom lip, I don’t pull away.

Lex makes a deep sound at the back of his throat and tightens his grip on me, holding on as if he’s trying to control himself.

I should be afraid, but my head is so hazy with lust, the thought doesn’t have a chance to manifest enough to invite fear in.

Our kisses become quicker, more frantic, until Lex finally rips his mouth away from mine.

I blink my eyes open as I’m catching my breath and find him licking my blood off his lips, his fangs still fully extended and stained in red.

Holy fuck that was hot.

I lick the rest of the blood from my lips, which tingle at the touch.

“Do you want to know what you taste like?” Lex asks, running his thumb along his bottom lip.

My heart falters, and I open my mouth to respond, but nothing comes out. “I…”

He grins. “Everyone tastes a little different. You… taste like the warmth of the sun on your face after a long, dark winter.”

“That’s poetic,” I mutter, heat rising in my cheeks.

His eyes hold mine as he shrugs. “Ask Gabriel what you taste like to him next time.”

I choke on a laugh. “Yeah, I’m not going to do that.”

That earns me another grin. “You also taste a little like strawberries and coffee.”

I blink at him. “Are you serious?”

He nods. “As a white ash stake to the heart.”

I arch a brow, making a mental note of that. You know, just in case. “Plain old wood won’t do it?”
