Lex pauses, seeming to consider his next sentence before he says, “No. Has to be white ash. Lucky for us, it’s pretty rare.”

“Huh. And that’s the only way to kill a vampire?”

“Subtle,” he murmurs, tutting his tongue. “You think I’m going to stand here and tell you how to kill me”

I prop my hands on my hips. “Haven’t you already?”

The corner of his mouth kicks up; he isn’t concerned. “You’re very sneaky. Distracting me with your lips and your blood—”

“Hey,youbitme,” I remind him.

“Yeah, I did. Afteryoukissedme,” he shoots back in a teasing tone.

“Whatever,” I grumble halfheartedly, but before I can say anything else, Gabriel returns, and I catch his gaze. “Everything okay?” I ask.

He nods, offering me a smile. “Just something at work. Nothing you need to be concerned about.”

I press my lips together, nodding, though I’m not sure I fully believe him.

“Fire them,” Lex says, leaning against the counter.

Gabriel arches a brow at him. “Helpful as always, Lex. Thank you very much.”

“Anytime.” He winks.

Gabriel finishes dinner while I pretty much try to stay out of the way and just watch.

An hour later, the five of us are sitting around the table eating the most delicious lasagna I’ve ever tasted. I stuff my face with carbs, savoring the garlic bread Gabriel made to go with the lasagna and hating myself for how much I’m enjoying it. I almost forgot for a moment what circumstances led me here. Almost.

I take a long drink of water, glancing around the table. The guys are mostly quiet. Kade is scrolling on his phone, and Gabriel is speaking softly to Atlas, who is nodding along. Before my gaze reaches Lex, I freeze at the feel of his fingers trailing up my leg. Shooting him a look, I press my lips together as my cheeks flush. He isn’t going to…

Lex’s fingers slide between my legs and rub slow, firm circles against my center, over my joggers.

My jaw clenches so hard I can’t open my mouth. I bite my tongue to keep from making a sound and fight the urge to push against his fingers.

I clear my throat and suck in a breath, flushing hotly when Kade peers over at me.Shit.

“You good?” he asks, arching a brow.

“I… Yeah, I’m fine,” I manage to say before dropping my gaze to my plate. It takes everything in me to pick up my fork and lift it to my mouth, as if Lex isn’t teasing me under the table.

When he pulls his fingers away, my stomach drops, either from relief or disappointment, I’m not even sure at this point. And then he slips them past the waistband of my joggers, and I see red. His lips twist into a satisfied smirk when he realizes I’m not wearing any panties, and he wastes no time, parting my folds and slipping inside in seconds.

Fuck. Me.

I squeeze my thighs together, cursing silently and gripping my fork tighter.

“Calla?” Gabriel’s voice cuts through the haze of pleasure, and my head snaps up to look at him.

“Huh? Sorry, pardon?” I mumble.

He watches me for a moment that seems to stretch into forever, while Lex continues stroking me. “Are you not enjoying it?” he asks, pointing to the barely eaten lasagna that I’ve been pushing around my plate.

“Oh, no I definitely… am enjoying it.”

Lex snickers beside me, slipping his finger out and circling my clit.

I manage to shove his hand away without being too obvious about it and return my attention to my plate. “It’s really good, Gabriel,” I tell him with a smile. “You’ll have to teach me how to cook, because I pretty much tap out after instant noodles or those frozen meals you cook in the microwave.”
