I roll my eyes. “I’d love to go pack my things, but I don’t have anything here with me, remember?”

“We will get you some essentials, don’t worry about that. My assistant is on it.”

Assistant! That earns him another roll of my eyes. I take a few calming breaths so I don’t blurt anything else out that may land me in trouble or the dungeon.

But he can rest assured I’m storing insults up to hurl at him later.

“That sounds just peachy,” I tell him over my coffee cup as his mom presents him with an overflowing plate of food.

Valentina gives Enzo his bacon and eggs, as she makes a plate for herself.

“I might just go and get myself ready,” I whisper. “Let you eat in peace.”

I need to get the fuck out of here.

He narrows his eyes suspiciously again. “That’s awfully nice of you, not attempting to butter me up now, are you?”

“Not likely,” I mumble so only he can hear. Enzo and Valentina are too engrossed in their own conversation over who has more bacon. “I assume we’re going to your house as planned?”

He takes his fork to his eggs and eats a mouthful before he answers, “Don’t assume anything, princess.”

“Why does everyone keep calling me that?” I don’t know if I want to know the answer, but, of course, they think I’m a spoiled rich brat.

“I can’t think why,” he mutters as Enzo and Valentina both look over at us.

I give them a sweet smile. “See you guys later,” I say like I’m going on a Sunday picnic. “Thank you, Mrs. Medici, for the scrumptious breakfast.”

“You’re welcome, my dear,” she hollers over her shoulder.

I feel Marco’s eyes on me as I leave the room.

I’m hoping Marco isn’t taking me to his house, he hates me, and I don’t want to be stuck anywhere with him. I just want to get out of this mess and go back to my apartment.

I need to find my phone, or get a new one, and text my friends. Then I need to figure out what the hell I’m going to do with Vlad and everything else going on in my life. I am also very aware that I will have to hash it out with my uncle. I’m not looking forward to that conversation.

At least I had some good coffee and sustenance so I can think straight.

Maybe now I can work out the rest of my life.

We leave the compound a few hours later. I heard Marco and his brother Angelo arguing again not long before we left. Marco seems pissed, and I can only assume it’s about me.

He doesn’t want to be around me any more than I want to be around him. And he had better stop calling meprincess.

Rocco is following in a car behind us. It seems like they need quite a few people to keep little old me subdued.

I don’t really understand why I have to leave their stupid little Fortress. Can’t they just figure it out there, and I can go home?

“How long does it take to get to your place?” I ask Marco as he drives. He hasn’t said one word to me since he pulled out of the gates.

“Not long, under an hour.”

“What are we going to do once we get there?”

He glances across at me. “We’renot going to do anything. I’ll show you to your wing, and then I’ll be on my way downtown.”

I balk at him. “My what?”
