“Let’s keep it between us. I haven’t told Kellan yet,” Poppy begged.
Chapter 60
AUGUST
Upon landing, I rushed to the market area. I found what I was looking for within ten minutes. I wanted to buy cowboy boots and cowboy hats. Halima had given me Imogen’s shoe size and clothing size so I could pick out western outfits for us. I wasn’t having much luck with the clothing, so I sent Halima a message to please stay by her side and make sure she wore her jeans and a black t-shirt. I filled her in on the evening’s plans and had her pack an overnight bag with a few options of outfits for the next day. Then I met up with Kellan for our meetings.
“Kellan, sorry I wasn’t able to meet you when I landed,” I apologized, laying the blueprints on the table he was working at. “I had to get some things in order for Valentine’s plans for me and Imogen.”
I did it again. What is wrong with me, it’s like I want to get caught.
“It’s fine August, I had plenty of work to do before you got here,” Kellan said, not paying attention to what I had said, thankfully. “Let’s go over the plans and get this thing done. I want to get back to my wife for our first Valentine’s.”
I rolled out the blueprints, pointing out areas we should change as well as areas that needed a big change. I quietly hoped that if I kept talking he would not realize my slip up.
“Did you say you were making plans for Valentine’s?” Kellan stopped writing and looked up at me.
Not as in the clear as I thought.
“Yeah, Paris is a great place for that isn’t it?” I answered, being vague. “What did you have planned for Poppy?”
“Did I hear you say you and Imogen? I thought she was for Asher,” Kellan said, staring at me. “What’s going on, August?”
“Where do I begin?” I groaned, and sat down in a chair next to Kellan. “It’s a huge mess.”
“Explain yourself, cous,” Kellan’s smile encouraging me on.
“Asher came with me to Australia to do as told by Mom, but then he ran into that model from college and asked…make that begged…me to switch places with him to give him a chance with ‘the love of his life’”, I began to explain. “We all know how weak I am with Asher, and before I knew it, he had convinced me to do this.”
“Oh my God, Poppy was right!” Kellan exclaimed. “She texted me like twenty minutes ago that she thought something fishy was going on with you and Asher.”
“I don’t know why I let Asher get me into these problems of his. Do you think anyone else in the family knows we switched?” I asked, standing up to pace. “Look at me, she has me pacing like her now.”
“August, just switch back before anyone else figures it out. I don’t think anyone has yet, besides Poppy.” Kellan stood to stand in front of me. “Unless there’s a problem with doing that.”
“Yeah there’s a problem, alright. I’ve gone and fallen in love with my brother’s bride.” I rubbed at the back of my neck and paced past Kellan. “I don’t want to switch back. I don’t want to give her back to him.”
“I have to say August, I can’t believe you guys did this at this age, but it’s as funny as you know what.” Kellan was laughing and texting. “I have to tell Poppy she was right.”
“NO! You can’t tell anyone!” I ordered. “Let me get this figured out and get us switched back. I promise I’ll come clean later.”
“I can’t lie to my wife. Besides, she’s the one that figured it out to begin with,” Kellan went on. “I think you should go ahead with your big Valentine’s plans and enjoy one last night with her.”
“How do I do that?” I begged. “She’ll know there’s a difference once we switch back, plus family get-togethers. As soon as she finds out I’m an identical twin, she’ll know.”
“You don’t have much choice. Your mother is a formidable opponent. I wouldn’t go against her wishes.” Kellan shook his head. “Her main goal is to get family businesses in order.”
“Well then she should thank me. Asher would never have been able to behave himself and get things settled down,” I pointed out. “Shoot, I hope Mom hasn’t figured it out.”
Chapter 61
IMOGEN
Poppy and I sat in peaceful silence, eating a pizza on the balcony. Kellan had texted her that he had a surprise trip planned for them and he would be meeting her at the airport at two pm tomorrow. I was seriously jealous by his romantic gesture.
He is going to be so excited to find out he’s going to be a daddy. What a great Valentine’s Day surprise.
“Did you ask Asher about going into his penthouse?” Poppy interrupted the silence. “I was also wondering how you got him to dress more like August and Parker?”
