“You doubt me? I’m hurt,” I complained. “Would it help if I said Chloe, Mia, and Sophie are going?”

“Stop your dramatics. I would like to see Sophie again. I think they leave soon, right?” Betty asked. “What time?”

“Perfect. Three o’clock at the baseball fields in Central Park.” I gave myself a virtual high five. “Now go home, I know it’s well past your shift.”

“That’s the pot calling the kettle black, isn’t it?” Betty argued back. “See you tomorrow.”

The weather couldn’t have been betterif I’d paid someone to make it perfect. I messaged Chef Harris to check on the food.

“Hey, would you be able to bring the food to the park for me?”I texted.

“I don’t have a car. This is too much food to go on the train. You come get.”

“I’m busy. What about if I send my limo to get you and the food?”I pleaded.

“Yes, I can do that. I will be big deal in limo.”

“Perfect, my driver will help you load it, so you let him do it. He will know where to bring you.”

“Alright, alright. You better be hungry. I make lots of food for Miss Chloe.”

“For Chloe?! What about me?”

“You eat my food every day. She’s leaving soon. I must feed.”

“I don’t feel like I’m your favorite anymore.”

“Oh, you try that on me when you were a little boy. It no work. Now stop messaging me and let me cook.”

“See you at three o’clock. Have my driver bring you home first to change your clothes. I want you to stay and visit.”

“Yes, yes. Maybe so. My neighbors will see I’m big deal then, too.”

“I still think you should retire and come work for me only. You could live in my building, so no more trains across town.”

“You say all the time. I think about it. Goodbye now.”

My next text was to Betty, to make sure she was coming. I had a plan.

“You are coming to the picnic today, right?”I asked.

“I don’t know. I’m still at the hospital and I have to go all the way home to change.”

“Betty, no excuses. I already told Sophie you were coming. My driver will be there in ten minutes to pick you up.”

“I don’t need you to do that. I can get home on my own.”

“Yes, I know you can, but today I’m the boss and you will be driven home in my limo. Then you can help him pick up the food.”

“Ah, so you’re putting me to work, I see.”

“Not really, it’s just on the way. So be downstairs in ten.”

“Okay, fine. Just this once.”

“Mummy look, it’s Dr. Trey,” Sophie called out as I approached. “Are you ready for our picnic?”

“I’m so ready. Are you hungry, or should we play some kickball first?” I bounced a big purple ball. “Or we can go watch a baseball game in the park.”
