“I don’t know what’s next either, but there better be enough for all of us,” Mia said, taking one of the popsicles from my hand.

“Seriously, you two? What kind of lesson is that for Sophie to witness?” Chloe demanded, walking over to Mia. “I’ll take that popsicle, since I’m the mom who has to stay here.”

“Mummy, you’re funny, like Dr. Trey,” Sophie said, opening her popsicle. “I’ll share mine with Dr. Trey and you share with Aunt Mia.”

“What a great idea Sophie.” Chloe kissed her on top of the head.

“Everybody wait!” Sophie shouted. “Uncle Parker needs one.”

“You know what, Sophie?” Parker smiled. “I’ll go tell the nurse to bring one for everyone. Would that be better?”

“Thanks Parker, but I was only playing. Betty will be walking through that door any second with popsicles for everyone,” I said, pointing to the door as it opened on cue. “Ah, my favorite person in the whole world.”

“Dr. Trey, you behave yourself,” Betty slightly blushed. “I got the good popsicles from the doctor’s lounge, thanks to your key, but I almost got caught.”

“Really, which doctor was it?” I asked, opening another popsicle.

“I can’t tell you,” Betty said, with a nod toward Parker.

“You didn’t almost get caught, Betty. I knew what you were up to when I saw you sneak out of the lounge.” Parker walked further into the room.

“Is there anything else you need, Dr. Trey?” Betty looked around the room at the group of us.

“Yes, I need you to stay and join us having a popsicle.” I handed her a blue one. “Don’t worry about that grouchy Dr. Parker yelling at you. I’ll take care of him.”

“Dr. Trey, I appreciate your offer, but I do have patients and other nurses to boss around.” Bettyturned for the door. “Bossing them around is my favorite part, too.”

“I’m going to tell them you said that.” I smiled ear to ear.

“You would never. Because if you did, I would have to tell some stories about you.” Betty winked at me. “And yes, there are actually stories that never made those tabloids you are always in.”

“Betty, I would love to have a meeting with you tomorrow to go over some of that information,” Parker attempted a joke.

“No can do, Dr. Parker. Blackmail is a lucrative business.” Betty laughed as she walked out and closed the door.

“What could she have on you, Trey?” Mia asked.

“I actually have no idea, but Natalie could be involved in some of those stories,” I shook my head, laughing. “I never realized Betty was paying attention. Now I’m scared.”

“You can hold Benjamin, Dr. Trey.” Sophie held Benjamin up. “When I get scared, he makes me feel better.”

“Thank you, Sophie, but don’t worry. I was making a little joke about being scared.” I accepted the offered Benjamin. “Nurse Betty is my favorite and she’s super nice, so don’t be afraid of her.”

“Alright, Dr Trey.” Sophie took Benjamin back from me. “Are we having dinnies in this hospital?”

“Crickey, we forgot to get dinner.” Chloe tossed her popsicle stick in the trash. “They didn’t even bring a tray of food for Sophie. That’s odd isn’t it?”

“Not really,” Parker spoke up. “Mia ordered food for you to be delivered, so I requested Sophie’s food be wrapped so I could give it to someone in need.”

Everyone in the room turned to look at Parker. “That’s the best thing I’ve ever heard you say.” Mia hugged him.

“It’s just something Trey and I do, it’s not a big deal.” Parker shifted, looking uncomfortable with the attention.

“Way to tell on me, bro.” I stood with my hands in my pockets. “Ladies, it’s just a thing, please don’t make a bigger thing out of it.

“Trey, that’s a really nice thing. I’d love to hear more about it sometime.” Chloe looked at me like I had several heads.

What’s happening right now?
