I ran a brush through my tangled wet hair. Deciding my hair was too much of a disaster to be seen with the perfect Victoria, I ran to the bathroom, flipped my head upside down, and started the blow dryer.

“Mummy, Grandma Victoria said it’s time to go,” Sophie said, bursting into the bathroom. “Are you ready to go?”

We spent the afternoon shopping. Mia wanted to treat us to a girls’ night out, starting with dinner and ending with night club dancing. So, we were in hot pursuit of fun dresses for both of us. Victoria let Mia and me go our own way while she indulged Sophie with new dresses and sparkly shoes to match.

“She’s spoiling her rotten,” I said to Mia. “She might be creating a monster I won’t be able to control back home.”

“Sophie is a great little girl,” Mia said. “She’s been through a lot. She deserves to be spoiled.”

I watched Victoria and Sophie make their way to a trendy little toy shop across from the store Mia and I were in. We’d been to several stores before the one we were now in and we were so happy to have found the perfect dresses. They had such great stuff. Mia bought each of us several dresses.

“Why are you buying us more? I asked, watching her hand over her credit card. “They’re not needed.”

“You made me buy the shoes with the red heels and now I’m in shopping mode for you.” Mia smiled back at me. “We may want to go out again or you might get a date or something.”

“Yeah sure, I’m going to find someone to take me on a date in New York City,” I laughed now. “I can’t even find time to date back home.”

“You will date again soon, Chloe. Sophie is better now.” Mia told the clerk to bring the bags to the limo, then took me by the hand. “Let’s go see what they are up to.”

We left and walked over to join Victoria and Sophie sitting on a bench under some shade trees.

“Look Mummy. Isn’t she so pretty?” Sophie pointed to a blonde-haired, blue-eyed baby doll in a very fancy doll stroller. “And we got ice cream cones.”

“Ice cream cones? Did you bring me one?” Mia asked. “I’m so hungry.”

“Forget ice cream cones. I’m starving. We have our dresses and shoes for girls’ night,” I said. “Food. I need food.”

Mia’s driver was used to her asking him to stop while she grabbed a slice of pizza, but Victoria’s driver was not, so Mia called for her driver to pick us up at Penn Station. Victoria said her goodbyes from inside her limo, but Sophie jumped back inside, climbed into her lap and gave her a big hug.

“Thank you for my new baby doll, Miss Victoria. Maybe you can come have a tea party with us one day?” Sophie planted a sticky kiss on her cheek. “I can ask Mummy if you can come play with me when they have their girls’ night.”

“Sweetheart, I’m not sure I can that night, but I’ll see you again.” Victoria hugged her.

“Okay, bye-bye.” Sophie climbed out of the limo.

We waved bye to Victoria’s limo as it began to move but then her window went down.

“Chloe, would you mind if I watched Sophie on Saturday night while you girls are out? Apparently, there is a tea party I must attend that night.”

“I know you’re busy, Victoria, it’s fine,” I said.

“What a great idea,” Mia interrupted. “Call me tomorrow so we can talk about which girl you’re going to pick for Trey.”

“I think I’ve made my decision, but I’ll call you tomorrow to chat about it,” Victoria said. “Goodnight.”

Chapter 61

Trey

My mother had sent me a text that she’d made her decision on a bride and that it was time for me to go pick rings. I had no idea what rings a girl would want, so I called Murphy.

“Hey Brat, I have to go pick out wedding rings. You wanna help me?” I asked. “I know you love doing this kinda thing.”

“Three, I can’t go today. You should ask Mia,” Murphy said. “Gotta run, but I can’t wait to see what you pick.”

I was definitely not going to pick rings by myself. I called Mia next.

“Hey Mia, my mother said I have to pick rings. Can you get free to help me pick?” I begged. “Please, please, please.”
