“Yes, Mom, I know. Speaking of Trey, did you pick a girl yet?” Parker asked.

“Actually, I did, but I’m not ready to tell anyone yet,” Victoria said.

Parker smiled. “I know to not bother trying to get an answer out of you. I feel very confident that you will choose for Trey as well as you did for me.” He walked away.

“What are you smiling about, Mr. Hawthorne?” Mia asked Parker.

“Yeah, we’ve been listening to this conversation, but I didn’t hear anything to warrant that grin.” I said.

“Sophie is in there talking a mile a minute,” Parker chuckled, then picked up his briefcase and headed out the front door.

I was as ready as I’d ever be to go out on the town in New York City. This was going to be a great night- a night I needed to shake Trey out of my mind.

“Sophie, baby, Mummy is going to leave now. You be a good girl for Miss Victoria and listen to her when she says it’s bedtime.” I kissed my daughter on top of the head.

“Mummy, can Miss Victoria be my grandma?” Sophie followed me to the door.

Oh my. Out of the mouths of babes. This is awkward.

“Sophie, come over here to me for a minute.” Victoria put her arms out for Sophie to get in her lap. “Do you want to call me Grandma?”

“Yes, I want you to be my grandma. You told Uncle Parker you want to be a grandma,” Sophie said.

“Yes, someday I’d love to be a grandma.” Victoria looked to me and Mia.

“I don’t have a grandma, so maybe you could be my grandma,” Sophie rushed on. “Would that be a good idea?”

Chapter 63

Trey

My week had been busy, so much so that I’d forgotten about the dreaded auction date with Natalie. I’d checked in with Chloe each day to see how Sophie was doing. We both knew I didn’t need to check in since she was staying with Parker, but I needed the excuse to keep in touch. It was now Saturday and all I wanted to do was go out with Chloe, but a text would have to do.

“Hey, I hear you and Mia are having a girls’ night tonight.” I texted.

“Yep, new outfits and all. Watch out New York.”Chloe responded.

“Have fun tonight.”

“Thanks, you too. And Trey…smile pretty for the cameras.”

“Real funny.”

“Yeah, I thought so too.”

“Would you, Mia, and Sophie like to have a picnic Monday or Tuesday?”I asked.

“Sounds good. I’ll talk to Mia. Gotta go.”

That wasn’t an answer. Why am I trying so hard?

I headed to the shower to get ready for the date, but decided to shave first. I sent Mia a text.

“I asked Chloe if the three of you wanted to picnic with me. What do you think?”

“She hasn’t mentioned it, but I’ll talk to her tonight while we’re out.”Mia answered.

“Just let her bring it up. I don’t want her to think I went around her. You have to come, though.”
