“Of course, I’d love to come. Then I can take Sophie off to the playground or something.”

“She’d like that.” I responded.

“How’s the bride search going?”

“Mom said she’d made a decision, but I haven’t heard any more than that.”

“Your mom decided on one but seems to be unsure about the other one. So, she has to make a final decision. Patience, my dear brother-in-law.”

“I have none, they were taken away when I was younger.”

“Ha Ha! Chloe tells me you picked a beautiful wedding ring.”

“Yeah, I appreciate you suggesting her to help me pick something a girl would really like.”I said.

“No problem. Chloe enjoyed helping and getting out was good for her.”Mia texted then sent another text.“Trey, do you like Chloe?”

“Why wouldn’t I like your sister?”

“You know what I meant. Do you like, like her?”

“I don’t know, Mia, it’s a little confusing.”

“It’s not that confusing. You do or you don’t. Which is it?”

“Fine, I do, but she has to go back. I can’t do long distance.”

“Agreed. And that’s a really long distance. Lol”

“Hey, I need to get in the shower. You guys have fun tonight.”

“You too. Maybe you should borrow Bond for protection from Natalie.”

“Not a bad idea.”

Chapter 64

Chloe

Ilooked to Victoria as her eyes watered. She pulled Sophie to her and hugged her tightly. “I think that’s a very good idea. I really want to be your grandma.”

Mia had walked up next to me, listening to the conversation, and stood quietly while we both wiped at the tears rolling down our faces. It hadn’t occurred to either of us that Sophie was missing out on having a grandma and grandpa. Sophie jumped down off Victoria’s lap and ran in circles celebrating.

“Grandma, grandma, grandma! I have a grandma!” Sophie sang.

“Are you guys crying?” Sophie stopped dancing around the room.

“Why are you crying, Mummy? Aren’t you happy I have a grandma now?” Sophie asked with all the innocence of a six-year-old.

“Yes, baby, I’m very happy for you. You go have a fun tea party with your new grandma.” I waved to Victoria.

Mia mouthed a “thank you” to Victoria, then put her arm across my shoulder, and we walked out together, still wiping away tears.

“Isn’t there a night club waiting for the two of you?” Victoria asked. “Get out of our space. We have big plans.”

Mia and I walked arm-in-arm all the way to the limo without talking. Needless to say, our girls’ night started out a little solemn after the whole grandma thing.

“I chilled the champagne Mr. Hawthorne asked me to have for you,” our driver said, holding the door open for us. “Do you need anything else before we leave?”
