“I like the way you think,” Lou nodded. “You could also have a refrigerator with cold drinks at the bike station, all run off of solar.”

“Why didn’t we do this solar energy at the house,” I looked to Asher, “or at least at the huts?”

“We are using solar at the huts.” Asher pointed to the panels above the trees. “You just weren’t paying attention, cous.”

“Honestly, Ash, I didn’t need to. You always have great ideas. You really need to do this more,” I said, adding his ideas to the sketch. “This is gonna be really nice. Day excursions for our friends.”

“Our friends? They don’t walk places,” Asher scoffed. “Maybe if you make the wood walkway wide enough for motorized transportation.”

“Like an ATV?” I made a note to make the walk wider. “I already planned to order some for the marsh area, but I should have considered them going on the walkway.”

“I don’t mean to interrupt, boys, but I promised Guy’s daughter I’d come help her with her boat today.” Charlie stood with his pack. “I’ll see you back at the house tonight.”

“Hey, where you going?” I asked. “We’re going back on the yacht.”

“Ah, I can hike back. We already cleared it.” Charlie waved me off. “Plus, I have my cookies.”

“Charlie, stay on the boat so we can keep talking. Besides, you’ll get back quicker so you can go help sooner.” Gunner frowned. “I want to go with you to see Guy and check on supplies.”

“We can all go,” I added.

Chapter 63

Jade

“Idon’t know what we do now. Do I sign something?” I followed her to the door.

“You go to the hospital and be with your father. Dr. Johnson is already doing what’s needed to transport him.” Victoria stopped and took my hand in hers. “Its’ going to be alright. You’re a good daughter to give of yourself for him.”

“Thank you. Should I speak with Charlie and the guys?” I asked, then caught myself. “I forgot, you already did, right? That would explain Charlie showing up here this morning offering to help.”

“No, I mentioned it to Mr. Bond but told him to keep it to himself.” She smiled. “I just had a feeling they would like to do it. They are retired marines, what could be better?”

“That’s why I’m fighting so hard to keep the marina. Dad will need it when he gets better.” We both looked out over the water when we heard a plane coming.

“There’s my ride, and right on time.” Victoria nodded and walked out to the beginning of the dock.

“How did you know how long this would take, or if I was going to even be here?” I stood next to her on the dock.

“I didn’t, and they don’t know they’re my ride, but here they are anyways.” Victoria smiled. “I’m looking forward to a ride in that plane. It should be fun.”

Like a clown car at the circus, first Sawyer jumped out of the plane, then one by one a giant man after another emerged smiling.

“Aunt Victoria, I didn’t know you were coming back today.” Sawyer kissed her cheek. “Good afternoon, Jade.”

“Mr. Hawthorne,” I said, “nice plane.”

“Are we back to Mr. Hawthorne again? Please call me Sawyer.” He pushed his sunglasses on top of his head. “How’s your father today?”

“Things are looking up for him. He’s going to a very good facility to get better.” I glanced over to Victoria, but she gave nothing away. “Excuse me, I’m gonna go tell the guys what’s happening.”

“Hey Jade, how’s the Admiral today?” Gunner asked first.

“Before that, I wanna know if you made cookies for all of us?” Lou scooped me up in a hug. “Charlie won’t share his.”

“Charlie, is this true?” I accepted a hug from him next. “Did you eat all of those yourself?”

“I never said I was going to share, and they didn’t work on the boat engine.” Charlie patted his stomach. “They were very tasty on our mission this morning.”
