“You go ahead. I’m gonna get started on the blueprints. Johnny, good to see you as always,” Asher answered, distracted by Johnny’s paperwork. “Hey, I’ll call you in a few weeks to talk about the malls.”

We took the seaplane. Johnny wanted a look from above, so we circled the island a couple of times, then headed to the marina.

“Looks like they’re doing some work at the marina,” I said. “Were they doing this when you came in this morning?”

“Yeah, there was a crew here working on the furthest dock. Looks like they finished and moved on to the next one.” Johnny jumped out of the plane as soon as we landed. “I’m gonna go take a look at it.”

“I’ll join you over there in a minute.” I looked over to see Lou coming my way. “Hey, Lou. What’s going on here?”

“Me and the boys are getting this marina back in shape.” Lou waved for me to follow. “The fourth dock is done already. It looks real good. Jade is going to be so surprised when she gets back.”

“Gets back from where?” I looked to the parking lot and saw the truck. “Didn’t the Admiral leave today?”

“Sure did, and she went with him. She’ll be back tomorrow, though,” Gunner said, walking up to us. “We thought she’d feel better seeing where he’s gonna be.”

“That’s real nice of you guys. So, she doesn’t know about this work going on?” I looked to Gunner. “Won’t she be mad you didn’t ask her?”

“Nah, she kinda knows. We said we’re gonna be here to help while Admiral’s away,” Gunner said. “Johnny needs a ride, right?”

“He does. Can you take him so I can get back to help Asher?” I asked both of them. “Dinner will be whenever you get back. Are you coming back?”

“We’re gonna be here working until it’s too dark, then we’ll be back.” Lou waved for Johnny. “I’ll take him, see ya later.”

I walked over and looked at the new dock. “I guess the foundation was sound.”

“We had an engineer check it first, and it’s fine.” Gunner pulled a ringing cell from his pocket. “I have to take this, it’s Solitaire.”

I watched as the guys pitched in, helping the crew rebuild the dock.

I hope they know what they’re doing. Jade could be really mad. Hmm… they never said where she went with the Admiral. I wonder with rehab facility it is?

I circled the island a few times, thinking over what I was about to do. It was without a doubt the craziest thing I’d ever decided to do, but I was looking forward to the next phase. Asher was bent over blueprints with a pencil behind each ear when I walked up to the patio table.

“This is a site, playboy Asher Hawthorne working.” I pulled my cell out, pretending to photograph it. “I’m gonna send it to the press right now.”

“Shut up and get over here and help,” Asher growled.

“You need some food or a beer?” I looked over his shoulder. “Looks great. How much power can these solar panels put out?”

“You could run your whole house if you wanted.” Asher stopped and looked up. “We can work on that later. I think with all the sun out here in the middle of the water, you could go full solar.”

“Look at you. You get so excited about this.” I sat across from him at the table. “Don’t look at me like that. I’m serious. It’s refreshing to see you like this.”

“I’m not getting married. I just like designing.” Asher chuckled. “You like it, too. It’s been our dirty little secret, hasn’t it?”

“I thought I heard the plane. Are you two ready for dinner?” Josh asked. “Marcus has some fresh lobster or salmon, if that interests you.”

“Yes,” we both said, then laughed.

“Alright, so it’s yes to lobster and salmon.” Josh looked at us with a serious face. “Will the other men be joining?”

“Tell Marcus they’ll be here shortly after dark.” I picked up a pencil and started drawing.

An hour later, we were both startled when a deep voice came out of the darkness.

“You draw real pretty.” Robert walked in out of the shadows. “You need any help?”

“I think we’ve got it,” Asher said, absently. “Where’s the others?”
