“I will not forget.”

The rest of the afternoon we cruised around looking at a few more islands. The chef needed to pick up supplies in town, so we agreed to join. Jade wanted to check in on things at the marina. Her father was doing much better and his Navy buddies were keeping him in check, but it was still nice to check in.

“I am excited to visit your family marina,” Sabrina said to Jade. “It is nice to have such a family connection and history.”

“One day maybe we can go visit your homeland and your family,” I said when she looked sad. “Your parents must miss you.”

“They do not. The have never checked in on me or sent care packages like the other dancers.” She looked away from me. “To them I was just another mouth to feed and easier to send away.”

“They probably did the best they could.”

“No, they should have at least told a young girl they loved her. Instead, they are only angry that I am not the best dancer to brag about.” She shook her body. “Forget that, let us talk of nice things, my husband.”

“I am your family now; we are all your family now.” I put my arm across her shoulders. “How about a walk through this quaint little town?”

“I would love to. First, I wish to put better clothes on.” She hurried off to the stateroom.

“You guys want to walk with us?” I asked Sawyer and Jade.

“You should go just the two of you.” Jade smiled at me. “I need to spend a little time with Dad anyways.”

“I am ready.” Sabrina hurried back on to the deck. “Jade, do you need anything?”

“Chef is picking up what I need. You go have fun, buy something from the little shops.” Jade waved and went into the marina office.

“Sawyer, what about you?”

“I have some calls to make. You go on.”

I nodded for Sabrina to walk with me. Finally, she walked beside me instead of behind me.

ChapterTwenty-Nine

SABRINA

The little shops were filled with trinkets from the ocean and beachwear. Cota convinced me to accept a big straw hat with a dolphin on it, but I only agreed if he got one too. We stopped at a drink stand for a fruity beverage in a hot pink cup with an umbrella on top.

“Do we even know what is in this drink?” I was concerned.

“It tastes like coconut and pineapple, maybe some orange juice too.” Cota took another sip. “I can’t be sure, but it’s really good. Try it.”

Everything tasted good to me. I had been surviving on water my whole life. Now my taste buds were alive with flavors and I couldn’t wait to experience more. We walked along sipping our drinks, relaxing.

“Cota, will we ever be able to leave this island?” I avoided looking at him. “I’m curious is all.”

“I’ve been checking with Gunner every day. He thinks it’s safe to go back next week.” Cota looked ahead as well. “Gunner will make sure you’re safe. I promise.”

“Are Yury and his men still looking for me?”

“They are still in New York, yes,” Cota confirmed. “Are you wanting to leave?”

“I enjoy being here, but we are in another couple’s home.” I finished off my drink. “I do not wish to overstay our welcome.”

“No such thing in this family, and especially with Sawyer and Jade, but I get your point.”

“I am not complaining, just asking,” I hurried to add. “I am so thankful for all of your help, including your sacrifice to help.”

“Sabrina, I’m no saint, and I’m very happy to be here with you.” Cota now smiled at me. “Let’s get back to the marina, that plane landing is going to be Murphy.”
