“We’ll be right next door and I’ll check the security system.” Bond patted my arm. “It’s the best around and no one can get up the elevator.”

“I guess I never asked but, Cota, where do you live?” I looked to him. “I mean, I don’t care, I was just wondering.”

“I don’t live anywhere,” he chuckled. “I’ve been in college for years, then I got married.”

“I married a man with no home?” I looked from one to the other. “This could be bad.”

“It’s not bad. You shouldn’t worry.”

“Basically, you’re homeless,” Murphy laughed. “I can see it now, you huddled in a box on the sidewalk.”

“You’re hilarious, and don’t make fun of the homeless,” Cota scolded. “Where do you live?”

“I just bought a place in the same building as several other Hawthorne’s.”

“Are there any more vacancies?” Cota asked. “If not, then we can just move in with you.”

“Sabrina can move in with me. My place is a no men zone, especially men that are family.” Murphy looked at her cell. “I’m sending you the link for the other units.”

“Don’t we own the whole building?” Cota shook his head. “I completely forgot. It should be no problem getting a unit.”

“So, you are not really homeless. That’s a relief.”

ChapterForty

COTA

“Iwas never homeless. Murphy is just playing around.” I pointed to the building in front of us. “That’s it.”

“It’s right by the park. I love that.” Sabrina got out of the car. “I can’t wait to go in there.”

“You can get a good view from the balcony. Come on, let’s get settled,” I nodded to the doorman, “then we can go look at the vacant units.”

“Will we be staying here in the city or going somewhere else?” Sabrina asked.

“We need a home base, which will be a unit in this building,” I stepped onto the elevator. “After we pick one, you can have it decorated however you want.”

“I do not think I should be doing that. It would not be fair to your real wife to find your place completed.” I watched him hit the top floor button. “Your real wife will want to do that.”

“You are my real wife, Sabrina.”

“Yes, I know, but I will be gone within a year, which is why it is the fair thing for you to then find a real, real wife.”

“I’ll see you two later. I have a date tonight.” Murphy got off the elevator at her stop.

“I’m surprised, Murph. I would’ve thought you would want a unit on the top,” I said. “What happened, got afraid of heights?”

“No! I just like the view from this one, so there.”

“Have fun on your date.” Sabrina waved.

We went to Kellan’s penthouse; our luggage would be brought in soon. I let the housekeeper know which rooms we’d be using, then brought Sabrina out on the balcony to show her the views. I sent Aunt Victoria a text to ask about the other units.

“There are two vacant units.”

“I’d like to take over one.”

“I’ll have the building manager give you the codes to get in them.”
