Page 9 of Rescuing Melissa

Melissa jerks her head up at me. I can tell she wants to ask me why it is that we made out if that’s the rule, but thank God she doesn’t ask, because I don’t have an answer.

I keep my eyes fixed ahead. “Our father was big on consent. Drilled that in pretty hard. We make sure our name is feared for the right reasons. Stalking a woman and putting cameras in her home is not something we let slide.” I should shut up, but her silence is killing me. She’s so frightened, so unassuming. “My mother was raped,” I admit, and then grimaced. “A member of the Torros did it, and died regretting his disrespect. They did it to get under my father’s skin, which is why he made the rule that none of us can be serious about a woman. Casual only. It works fine. Keeps our heads in the game. Keeps the Torros from being able to manipulate us by taking one of our women.”

Melissa gapes up at me while we walk together. “You’ve never had a girlfriend?”

I chuckle at how innocent she makes me sound. “Them’s the rules, doll. Of course, my eldest brother broke that rule recently, but Brunello has earned the right to do what he wants. I’m the youngest brother, so I don’t have that luxury.”

But even as I say that, my hand finds its way to hers. My fingers slide between hers in a very boyfriend sort of way.

I know I’m confusing her.

Hell, I’m confusing myself.

“Enough about me.” We move down the road and turn left, bringing us closer to a decent hotel. No way is Melissa staying in a dump with shitty sheets.

I bring her knuckles to my mouth and give them a quick kiss. “Tell me about you. Are boyfriends all they’re cracked up to be?”

She scoffs lightly. “Lance was never my boyfriend. It was a dating app match. A single date that I will regret for the rest of my life. We went out once. It wasn’t great, and ever since then, he’s been stalking me. I lost my job, my friends, and my apartment. I dropped out of school because he started showing up in the parking lot after my classes. I thought relocating would work, but apparently not.”

“He’s touched in the head if he’s doing that.” I kiss her temple again, only this time, she stops, turning me to face her.

“You do this often, then? Getting women out of bad situations? Because I’m falling hard for the brave knight sort of thing you’ve got going.”

My chest puffs. “No one’s ever called me a brave knight before. I think I like that.” I lean in and kiss her lips, but instantly, I know this was a mistake. My cock jumps, reminding me that he’s here and waiting impatiently.

How I want to take her right here, under the streetlight beside the nighttime traffic. I want everyone to see how well I make Melissa moan for me.

She kisses me harder, lifting onto her toes and fisting her fingers in the fabric of my shirt before she drops back down on her heels, her breath fanning my lips.

I swallow hard. “Helping you escape wasn’t on the agenda for tonight,” I admit. “It’s embarrassing, really. That we let one of our own get so out of control that this happened without us knowing? I’m sorry I wasn’t your brave knight sooner.”

Melissa straightens my shirt before we resume our path.

“You’reembarrassed? Lance took my secret fetish and turned it against me.”

My chin whips to her face. “How’s that? What’s your secret fetish?”

She shrugs. “I don’t think being watched while having sex is all that uncommon a fantasy, but now it’s ruined.”

My cock stiffens as countless images rise in my imagination, showing me all the ways I can make her fantasies come true.

There are at least three nicer hotels, but they are several blocks further, and I want her now. I tug her into the lobby of what is certainly not a five-star place, but isn’t a dump, either.

I slide enough cash for the week to the concierge in lieu of putting down a credit card that Lance might be able to trace. I put a little extra on the desk to ensure Melissa’s anonymity here.

She grimaces as I take the keys to her room, handing her one and pocketing the other. “Now I’m costing you money? I’m ruining your life, Giovanni. I’m sorry this is happening!”

I chuckle at her fretting. “That’s nothing you need to worry about. I’ll make sure you have food, clothing, and anything else you might need. And once Lance is dealt with, I’m taking you out so you can get anything you want. A girl like you?” I shake my head as we wait in the lobby for the elevator that seems to be taking forever. “I’m not about to pretend to be mildly interested.” I turn to her so she can see how serious I am. “I want you, Melissa. And the second we get up to that hotel room, I’m going to show you how badly I want you. If you’re thinking that’s a bad idea, now’s the time to say something.”

“What about the no girlfriends rule?” she inquires.

It’s a very good question.

I shrug. “I guess I’m making my own rules tonight.”

I expect her eyes to widen with surprise at my bold claiming of her, but instead, her lashes flutter and she bites down on her lower lip.

She wants me just as badly.
