“I’m just going to clean you up, then you can sleep, alright?”
I simply nod as she takes out a packet of wet wipes. “We’ll let you shower tomorrow, or maybe the day after…” I don’t care. I let my eyes drift closed. “Rest now, sweetpea. You did good.”

I wake a little while later to a new nurse working my breast in her hand, and a tiny little plastic syringe poised under my nipple to catch the liquid. “What–”
“I’m sorry, sweetheart. I’m nurse Tara. I just need a little colostrum for your beautiful baby girl.”
My brows pinch as I look around the still dark room. “You’ve seen her?”
She smiles. “Yes, I have. You made a beautiful baby, Izzy.”
“Is Jim with her?”
“You mean that hunky man who would barely let me touch her? He growls, did you know that? He’s like a big ol’ grizzly bear every time I come near her.” She smirks playfully. “Yeah, he’s there. He asked that I check in on you, and said to tell you that he loves you.” My heart beats wildly through the monitor in the otherwise silent room. “I wasn’t going to wake you just to tell you that, but since you’re awake…”
I close my eyes again. “Thank you for telling me.”
“Go back to sleep, sweetheart. I’ll take this to your baby girl.”
