I’d been stupid to ever think I could be even a single step ahead of my father.
“Part of me hopes you meant that little speech out there. It was lovely to hear you’re so eager to be my wife.” He sank his teeth into my earlobe. “But part of me is looking forward to how much fun it’s going to be to tame you.”
That crippling fear I’d felt before slammed into me with a vengeance. All the places he’d hurt me throbbed in pain. They were not-so-subtle reminders of what he was capable of.
I wriggled, trying to break free.
“Fight me,” he whispered darkly.
I tried to scream again, but it was a waste of effort. My heart pounded so hard it hurt.
Trapped.
He was too strong. Had me pinned with his body, as if he knew how to expertly use it to subdue.
No.
The sickly feeling intensified. Had he done this to other women? Made them feel helpless? Taken them against their will? Hurt them?
And what could he do to me in minutes?
Nothing.
I was going to try my best not to let him do this again. Anger, red hot and potent, submerged my fear.
I rocked back, trying to create some space between me and the wall.
Break free. Break free.
“That’s it.” His voice was a sick whisper. “In a few short days, we’ll get to do this as often as I like.”
He pressed me farther into the wall. Bile rose up my throat at the feel of his erection against my ass.
I could barely breathe. His hand still covered my mouth. I’d turned my head and one cheek was shoved against the wall.
Fight, Beau. Fight.
Humiliation washed over me at my helplessness.
You’re the bravest, strongest person I’ve ever met.
Garrett’s words came back to me, renewing my resolve. He believed in me. I believed in me.
Garrett.
I banged on the door with both fists.
I got in a couple of good whacks before Alex secured my wrists with his hands.
“Don’t be stupid,” he hissed.
With all my strength, I stomped on his foot with the spiked heel of my shoe. He howled in pain and slammed my head against the door. Stars dotted my vision.
The doorknob rattled, the massive wood flinging back.
Alex and I tumbled to the ground with the force.
