“I’m good, Elwood.” Gill puts his glasses back on. “That’s a young man’s game. I’m happy jammin’ with my grandbaby, these days.” he chuckles as Piper Lyn jumps on him laughing and giggling, then her little head snaps toward me.

“Miss Nikki, I’m glad you’re feeling better. Momma said you got a baby in your tummy! I’m gonna be a good sitter! I promise!”

“Will you now? Do you change diapers? Clean up when they get sick? This are all things you have to take care of with a baby.”

Piper Lyn nods triumphantly. “I take good care of my baby dolls and I even help with Charlie’s cage, so poop is not a problem.”

“Charlie?” Kris asks with hesitation.

“Her ferret.” Gillian shakes her head. “High speed over there got it for her for Christmas.” She points at her laughing dad.

“Shush you, it was almost a monkey. But I figured you already had a circus.”

“At least she has something to take care of. I didn’t have pets until Kris.”

He side eyes me. “I don’t know if you mean Cat, Bowzer, or me.”

“The whole lot of ya. Dad wouldn’t let me have animals. Not with my heart. We spent too much time in the hospital to have something.”

“Funny how God works sometimes. It’s funny, when I look at you, I see a little of Claudette.” Gill says softly. “It’s amazing that you found your way to each other.”

I grip Kris’ hand as a tear slips down my cheek. “I read about that, I didn’t know who she was for so long.” I turn to look at Kris. “It wasn’t until we started talking about my heart transplant that we figured it out. I think it’s part of what helped us mend something that was broken.”

I can feel Kris’s chest tighten, with his hand at my hip, I look up and he kisses me lightly, his body instantly relaxing. “All roads lead me to you, Tink.”

I start nodding my head to a beat that is only in my head. “All roads lead to you, would be a really great song-Album title!”

“Only you would take a beautiful moment and make it about work.” Blue who had been quiet in the kitchen this whole time finally chuckles.

“It’s why Kris loves me. Deal with it!”

“She works almost as much as I do, though not quite as hard. Or not quite when hard? It’s a toss up.” Kris shakes against me.”

“Because singing and dancing is so easy for a pregnant woman who’s had a heart transplant. I’m sure you’re also going to say one hundred and some odd thousand words is nothing either?”

“I’m just saying that you have one brain, and plenty of blood, but I have two and only enough blood to pump to one at a time, and as hard as you keep me, it’s a wonder I can ever get anything done.”

“He’s got you there, if our cock is working our brain is dead!” Blue smirks while the other guys just nod in agreement. MEN!

“Speaking of one brain, who decorated this place? It’s worse than your cabin.”
