“That’s one way to do a quick delivery,” I chime in. Immediately regret how stupid that sounded.

Cam looks at me, raises a brow. “And you are?”

“Val. The new receptionist.”

“The awesome new receptionist,” Ivy adds with a wink. I smile, appreciating that she’s in my corner.

“Anyway, have your grandparents call me.” Cam flashes Ivy another smile. “I hope to see you again soon. Real soon.”

“Great.” Ivy full on blushes now.

Oh yeah, she definitely likes this guy.

As soon as Cam leaves, I turn on her. “Okay, your turn to spill. What is up with you and baby face man?”

Ivy purses her lips. “He doesn’t have a baby face. He’s just… cute.”

“He has dimples for days.”

Ivy laughs. “Nothing’s happened with him, but maybe I kind of want it to. Problem is, whenever he’s around, I have zero coordination. You saw what happened with his business cards, it’s like that all the time. Don’t even think about giving me a cup of coffee around him…” Her expression turns dreamy. “Mmh. Speaking of, I would love some coffee right about now.”

“Same. I only had one cup this morning.” That’s probably why I keep getting distracted. Yes, coffee will fix my distraction situation, and then I can get my head back into work. Easy peasy. “I’ll do a coffee run.”

“You’re a lifesaver on all counts today, Val. I promise I’ll add ‘find a coffee supplier’ to my to-do list.”

I chuckle as I grab my purse. And maybe because I’ve been so caught up in my thoughts of Ethan all morning, when he walks in the front door of the Brookrose, it takes me a minute to process that he’s actually here.

His deep brown eyes land on me and he smiles this yummy, heart-stopping smile that makes my legs weak.

“Just the girl I’m looking for,” he says as he approaches the front desk.

“Hey, Ethan,” I say, feeling almost shy. I clear my throat, remind myself that I’m at work. “I’m about to run out for coffee.”

“Great. There’s something I want to talk to you about. Can I come?”

Ivy, who now has her nose buried in the reservation book, waves a hand at us. “More hands means more coffee. Now that the chipmunk situation is sorted, I’ll get on top of everything here.”

Ethan’s eyebrows pop up. “Chipmunk situation?”

I shake my head. “I’ll tell you as we walk. Coffee first, then chipmunks.”

There’s a sentence I never thought I’d say.

Val

“Wow… What else happened while you were gone on the weekend?” Ethan laughs as we walk down Main Street. At some point while telling him the chipmunk story, he interlaced his fingers with mine, and I’d be lying if I said it didn’t feel so completely right to walk hand-in-hand like this.

“That was the top news story.” I giggle. “I have a feeling that it’s never going to be a dull moment at the Brookrose. I love it already.”

“They’re lucky to have you.”

“I’m lucky to have them. I’m so glad that I found a job there.”

“Yeah, Mirror Valley is your home. You love it here.”

I nod, a smile on my lips. “Exactly. I couldn’t imagine leaving…”
