Page 173 of Fall Back Into Love

We have our arms around each other in the photo, and I look happy. Our sun-kissed faces squish together as we grin at the camera.

Music plays, and I recognize the song. Falling Back.

The sideshow flicks through several photos of Mason and me on our trip. Love beams off the screen. A flash of a white-water rafting post from my social media appears. Mason and I wear puffy life jackets, and we criss-cross our oars in a playful duel.

The lyrics hold the perfect words of how we’ve fallen back in love. The words are true. But I don’t think I ever stopped loving Mason.

The song ends, and a video pops up on the screen. It’s a drone view of a red tin-roofed country property. The view is breathtaking. Acres of lawn and beautiful aspen trees line a gravel driveway. There’s an attached dwelling at the back of the house. The video switches to the home interior. Bright white marble tiles surround a decadent kitchen. A real estate logo sits at the screen’s bottom right corner. It expands, and an agent introduces the home.

Mason speaks into the microphone. “You can pause it there.” He smiles at me. “Some of you have met my new secretary, Jonathan. Since employing him, I can cut back my hours in Denver and work from home—my new home in Georgetown. I want to be closer to family . . .” Mason scans the room. “And the special people in my life.” He dips his chin to Gran. “There’s an attached granny flat, fully equipped for wheelchairs. I would be honored if you’d move in with me. That is, if you’re willing to give up the pudding at the retirement village.”

She laughs. “I’ll be happy to kiss that tiny room goodbye. Who cares about pudding?”

Mason chuckles. “Good.” His eyes zero in on me. “The home is big enough for a family too, so I’m hoping to begin a new season in my life.”

My heart skips a beat. Does he mean—?

“Without further ado, please raise your glasses to celebrate Gran’s life and her new future.”

The people who hold drinks clink glasses with one another. Others clap and cheer. Mason leans down and hugs Gran.

“But before I finish. You must be wondering why I showed all the photos of Lauren and me. I have one more thing to say tonight.” Mason walks over with the cordless mic, and my breath stills.

He helps me rise from my seat and kisses my knuckles. “Lauren, you’re the sunshine of my life. You’ve taught me to prioritize. Even when life is full, we need to make time to rest and play. I hope you can see I’m making changes. I want to build a future with you.” He drops to one knee. “Lauren, will you take me back and marry me?”

I hold back the tears as I tug him upward and dive into his arms, hugging him fiercely. “Yes,” I mumble into his shirt.

He smells all things wonderful, and his body warmth seeps through my satin dress.

Mason gives me a squeeze, inches back, and holds the mic under my mouth. “Say that again.” His tone is bubbly.

I smile up at him. “It’s a definite yes from me.” My voice vibrates through the theater.

Our families and friends break into applause, and whistles fill the air.

Mason’s mom takes the microphone. “We have a lot to celebrate tonight.”

Mason captures my lips with his. His kiss is sweet and loving, and it touches my very core. He’s willing to prioritize time for us and our future. I am his, and he is mine. All we needed was a wise soul like Gran to show us the way.

“Kaitlyn knows stuff that might get her killed. But nothing a wig, contact lenses and a fake identity won't fix. The FBI might have tucked her safely in the back of nowhere, but a giant dog with a taste for the neighbor's chickens, and a handsome neighbor coming to avenge his lost poultry may be more dangerous than a hit man. She might fall in love. Fun, romance and a dash of danger. A must read from Lisa Renee.”Meredith Resce author of 'Luella Linley-License to Meddle' series
