“Alright. I have no idea if she can act. She’s good-looking, though.” He grins and turns to look at the young woman.

“I’m pretty sure you’re not supposed to do that anymore now that you’re getting married,” I say.

“Hey, I can look. No harm in that. What’s with you? You and Fiona getting pretty serious?” he asks.

“I don’t know. I thought we were back to how we used to be. Better actually. Now she’s acting weird.” I shake my head and grab my beer.

“Weird how?” Greg asks, giving me his full attention.

“She’s distant. It feels like she’s pulling away, and I don’t know why. Probably nothing. We’re both so busy with the shoot that we hardly see each other.”

“I think it might be more than that. I was hoping you two talked and worked this out.” He wipes his hands on his napkin and sits back.

“What are you talking about?” It worries me how worried my brother looks.

“Gwen saw some pictures online and showed them to Fiona.”

“What pictures?”

“You and some actress. Hold on.” He pulls his phone from his pocket and scrolls.

“I haven’t dated an actress in a while. Not since months before I came out here.” I try to think what pictures he could be talking about.

“This is the one you’re working with now. What’s her name? Alice something?” He hands me his phone.

I recognize the image immediately. It’s grainy, but undoubtedly an image of Alice and me at the diner the other night. “This isn’t what it looks like.”

“You sure?”

“Yes, I’m sure. Alice is having a hard time with— She has some personal issues going on and needed someone to talk. We had coffee and pie.”

“Nothing else going on?” he asks.

“Of course not. I work with the woman.” And she’s engaged, but no one knows that. Not even Fiona.

“You also work with Fiona.”

“I know. That’s different. If Fiona saw these, why didn’t she talk to me about it?” I’m hurt that she’d think I’d see someone behind her back.

“You said you’ve been busy. Have you been making time for her? Checking in?”

“Not as much as I should.”

“Please tell me you can fix this. I can’t have you two on the outs at the wedding. Gwen will make me choose which one of you to kick out of the wedding. Don’t put me in that kind of position.”

“It won’t come to that,” I promise. We’re both grown adults. We can pull this off, even if our relationship is going through a bit of a rough patch. Not that it will after I explain to her what these pictures are about.

“Right. Gwen’s gonna love that. No, I need you to kiss and make up with Fiona. Unless you’re losing interest ...”

“I’m not. She’s the one. Always has been.” The full realization of that hits me like a ton of bricks. I love this woman, and I’m not going to let her get away.

“Good. Because if you ask me, she’s good for you. And, Dude, you better get on it. You’ve got a week to make this right.”

Suddenly the movie that might make or break my career is the least of my worries.
