Page 76 of Fall Back Into Love

The two men hugged tightly, patting each other on the back, as Toby smiled at his father… only to be interrupted by an outraged voice nearby.

“What the heck?” Samantha’s uncle walked in and was staring at the baby in disbelief. “Hunter is a spectacularly gorgeous name… and you could have put an ‘X’ in it, if you needed to make it weird looking! You called the kid Jaxon Aaron after these two twerps? What about meeee?”

“Ohhh boy, here he goes,” Aunt Glory began, rolling her eyes, before walking over to congratulate Toby – as everyone began laughing at the playful man’s whining and antics… only to see Hunter’s joyful smile and mischievous eyes before he patted Toby on the back.

“How’s your bride?” Samantha’s uncle asked.

“She’s good,” Toby smiled. “I was just coming out to update everyone and I’m going to go check on her now.”

“Get going and enjoy this time while you can,” Hunter smiled, looking at his wife in the distance. “It passes way too fast, kiddo, ‘cause I remember pulling your father off the ceiling and teasing him about that scar on his eyebrow.”

Toby grinned, nodding.

Slipping into the hospital room, Toby tip-toed quietly, seeing that most of the lights were off. He didn’t want to worry Samantha’s parents about the details… yet.

The labor had been hard, and Samantha ended up having a large episiotomy that required a lot of stitches. The nurse had shooed him off to address her bandages and take her to recovery – and that was the only reason he’d left her side.

“Toby?”

Her voice was so sleepy, and he knew she was exhausted.

“I’m here, darling.”

“How’s Jaxon?”

“He’s a big little fella…” he chuckled, taking her hand in his as he walked to the side of her bed. “I’m so sorry about the stitches. How are you feeling?”

“Like I gave birth to the next major football star…” she teased softly, chuckling as she smiled at him. “He’s so beautiful, isn’t he?”

“Looks just like his mama…” Toby replied easily, feeling himself tear up – again. “I swear, just when I didn’t think I could love you any more than I already do? You bring me to my knees…”

He gazed at her beautiful face in amazement. He didn’t even see the rings of exhaustion under her eyes, the split lip where she’d torn it biting down, or the bruises on her cheeks from puffing so hard… His Samantha was there, breathtaking to behold.

“I love you, my sweet Bambi…” she whispered, staring up at him tenderly.

“I feel like it, too,” he admitted thickly. “My legs are trembling like you wouldn’t believe and I’ve been bawling my eyes out for the last half hour.”

“Try swapping places with me,” she retorted flatly, causing them both to laugh.

He leaned over the bed and kissed her lips carefully, smoothing back her hair, before kissing her forehead.

“Get some rest, darling,” he urged softly. “They are going to bring us Jaxon once it’s time for him to be fed.

“Will you stay with me?”

“Always.”
