“… And spend each day looking at my very own miracle,” he breathed softly as he slid the ring onto her finger. She didn’t even look at it because she only had eyes for her Toby.

He was her world, her heart, and soul.

“Yes…” she replied, feeling such overwhelming love and pride at the intense joy in his expression.

“Yes?” he repeated in disbelief, smiling and laughing nervously, as he got to his feet.

“Yes!” she parroted, almost in a shout, quickly throwing her arms around his shoulders as he picked her up, hugging her. He kissed her tenderly, holding her hand in his, as he lay it over his heart…

Only to hear someone clear their throat nearby.

They broke apart guiltily and looked to the right – to see her father, her mother, and both of Toby’s parents standing there, surrounded by almost twenty others that were there for dinner… all smiling at them.

Toby’s mother was taking photos and his sister, Nicolette was recording the entire thing on her phone. Her dad gave Samantha a thumb’s up, winked at her, and put his arm around her mother’s shoulders, hugging her mom proudly.

“I asked their permission right before you got home from work the night we found out that I’m going to be an uncle,” Toby whispered knowingly – and Samantha looked up at him in surprise, realizing that was the reason her father had been so stunned when she walked in the door for dinner.

“Are we celebrating or what?” Mr. Saxon announced, rubbing his stomach, before smiling at his wife, who elbowed him playfully. “I’m going to have a grandbaby, a new son-in-law, a doctor… and now a new daughter-in-law! Someone open that bottle of wine Thumper brought…”

EPILOGUE

Two years later…

Toby smiled tearfully as he walked out to update the families in the waiting room. He still couldn’t believe how beautiful his life was – and how lucky he’d been in having his ultimate dream come true. Every day was a miracle that Samantha told him she loved him – and he would never take it for granted. She was everything to him and always had been… until now.

She had just given him a son.

Seeing the birth of their boy, the way she clung to his hand through the contractions, and how helpless he felt in that moment would be something he could never describe and be forever grateful for…

“Toby!” her father shouted anxiously – jumping to his feet, quickly followed by nearly the entire waiting room. He saw it was very crowded with their huge ‘family’ that they had grown up with over the years. “How’s my Sam?”

“She’s incredible…” he laughed tearfully, beaming at Thumper – and rushing over to hug the man tightly. “Thank you for everything…”

“Kid, don’t make me throttle you,” her father choked out, sobbing. “How’s the baby?”

“Samantha said you’d be a mess…” Toby chuckled, wiping his eyes happily and feeling his mother rub his shoulders. “Mom is doing great, and our boy is a big fellow…”

“A son?”

“You have a beautiful, healthy grandson… weighing in at nine pounds and twelve ounces.”

“You Saxon men and those obscenely enormous babies!” His mother said, slapping his dad on the arm. “You know that hurts, and it’s like giving birth to a toddler!”

“That’s what Samantha said…” Toby grinned proudly. “C’mon, they are wheeling him into the nursery so she can rest a little bit. I told her I would come and update you before returning to her side.”

As they walked down the hallway, Toby couldn’t help the tears that threatened to choke him as he saw the small cart rolled forward, with the big baby swaddled tightly. A curl of black hair was peeking out underneath the blue knit cap.

“Oh, Toby…” his mother whispered, hugging him. “He’s got your dark hair, sweetie and… Ohhhh Aeron, look at his name.”

Her mother looked up at his father – who stared at the baby in the nursery, before turning to hug him. Samantha’s parents immediately put their arms around his shoulders, embracing him as well.

All of them were teary-eyed and smiling as the nurse held up the baby for them to see.

“That’s my boy…” Toby uttered proudly, not caring that he was sobbing. “We wanted to give him something special, yet honor both of the people who made our lives so wonderful and gave us a future we could only dream of. We named our son Jaxon Aaron Saxon.”

“Too many ‘X’s in the boy’s name,” Thumper said gruffly – before he smiled and wiped his eyes. “You’re okay, kiddo… you know that?”

“I’m glad to hear that, finally,” Toby retorted, laughing. “Cause I sure love your daughter and I’m not going anywhere without her.”
