Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god. It takes every ounce of self-control I have to slowly walk out of the building and to my car. What the hell just happened back there?

One minute Tucker and I are playing a fun game, the next, he’s asking to have sex with me. I don’t even know how to process this right now.

The early November air cools my heated skin as I race to my car. I quickly jump in and start it so it’ll warm up, but I don’t drive anywhere. I’m way too out of it to focus on driving.

I replay the entire conversation again in my head, trying to work out what happened, but I’m still at a loss.

I mean, the man I’ve loved since I was little just told me he wanted me. It’s been over twenty years since our kiss. In all of that time, he’s never once indicated any interest in me, but today, he decides he’d be the best choice to be in my bed? Seriously? What do I do with that?

I pick up my phone and call Sara because I need some perspective right now.

“Hello?” she answers on the third ring.

“Hey, do you have a minute? Something insane just happened to me.”

“Yeah, I’m free for the next twenty minutes. What happened?” Sara is a vet tech at the Sonoma Animal Clinic and is amazing at her job. I’ve never seen a person love every animal, from the creepy-crawly to the large and fluffy like she does.

“Okay, so I was supposed to meet with the city council today, but as per usual, I couldn’t meet with them.”

“God, I hate them sometimes. I’m sorry they’re still giving you a hard time.”

“Thanks. But what happened after is so much bigger. I decided to leave and reschedule, but when I got to the elevator, Tucker was standing there.

“Holy crap! When was the last time you talked to him?”

“I don’t even remember. Maybe like a year ago? Anyway, we both get on the tiny elevator, and it was torture.”

“Oh god, the temptation.”

“The goddamn elevator broke down, Sara!”

“No!” she gasps.

“Yes! So here I am, squeezing my fucking thighs together to keep from losing it in the tiny prison, and we break down! I couldn’t believe it.”

“How long were you in there?”

“I honestly don’t even know because I’m not done.”

“There’s more?”

“While we waited for rescue, we decided to play flip coin. Everything was fine until he made it in the box, and I had to say something embarrassing. I don’t know what was going through my brain, but I opened my big, fat mouth and told him I get waxed regularly.”

All I hear is Sara busting out laughing at me in response.

“It’s not funny!” I say even though I’m laughing too.

“I can’t believe you told him that!” she says, wheezing into the phone. I can feel a blush creep into my cheeks despite being alone in the car.

“I’m still not done.”

“Jesus, I don’t think I can handle this.”

“After I told him I wax, I tried to move us along, but he got stuck on it and insinuated my choices in men were bad?”

“Which is true,” she interjects, but I ignore it.
