“Happy Birthday
To the best Daddy
In the whole world.
The inside read:
Thank you for being the best daddy ever.
I love you very much,
Skylar.”
After swallowing the lump that formed in my throat, I looked up from the card and said, “Thank you, Skye. I love you too.”
I pulled a flat box out of the bag and opened it. There were four pairs of socks from my favorite sock store. Each pair was colorful or had something quirky on them like bacon and eggs or a picture of OutKast from theirStankoniaalbum. I loved different types of socks.
“Munchkin, these are the best socks I’ve ever had! Thank you.”
I pulled her in for a hug and kissed both of her cheeks twice.
“You’re welcome, Daddy,” Skye giggled.
“Open mine now, Daddy!” Fee said.
I pulled the multicolored paper out of the unicorn gift bag.
“Daddy, can I keep that bag?” Fee asked.
“Sure you can,” I answered while pulling another homemade card out of the bag.
There was a picture of a brown man, but half his face was black.
“That’s you, Daddy. That’s your beard,” Fee explained.
“Okay, and what is this I’m standing on?” I asked.
“Oh, that’s you on a unicorn,” Fee smiled.
“It’s a beautiful drawing, baby girl.”
The front of the card read:
“Happy Birthday
To
My Daddy.”
After opening it, I continued reading:
“You are my most favoritest person.
You are the unicorn of Daddys.
Love, Phoenix”
“This is a beautiful card, Fee.”
