“You throwing up? You’re not okay,” I said back.
“Let me see you’re okay, or I’m coming in there. I don’t care what’s going on,” I threatened.
“Fine, give me one second,” Cam huffed.
She appeared in the doorway a few seconds later wearing a white robe, but her make-up and hair were immaculate. She took my breath away and made me lose my train of thought for a second.
“Baby,” I said, moving towards her.
“You are so handsome,” she said and softly touched my beard. “I missed you.”
“I missed you too. Are you sure you’re okay?”
“Yes, I wanted to give this to you later, but I think now is a better time,” she said and handed me a gift bag.
I opened the box that I took from the bag and pulled out the beaded bracelet.
“I’ve never seen one with jewels in it,” I commented while examining the bracelet.
“It’s the family’s birthstones,” Cam said.
“Oh, I see mine; these are the girls’, and this one is yours. What’s this one?” I said, pointing to the emerald colored stone.
“Look under the cushion in the box,” she said.
I lifted the cushion in the box.
“Is this?” I asked, looking at the black and white picture.
“Our baby…” Cam said softly.
My eyes filled with water. I blinked hard, trying to see through the tears to examine our baby’s first picture.
“I wanted to tell you tonight once we were alone, but you put your cape on and came down here trying to save me. I wanted to ease your mind.”
“Are you feeling okay?” I tore my eyes away from the picture to ask.
“Aside from this terrible morning sickness, I’m good. Pearline has a whole case of ginger tea and dry crackers for me to snack on,” Cam chuckled.
“You told Mother?”
“She saw me throw up yesterday and asked. She said she knew about a month ago when we were at my dress fitting.”
“A month ago?”
“I’m eight weeks.”
“Baby, I’m so happy. The girls are going to be ecstatic. He will grow up with Rufus and have a huge backyard to play in at the new house.”
“Can we get married now?” she asked.
“Hell yeah!”
