Bee and the girls all shared the same big smile.

“I love you. I will see you in a little bit, okay?” I said after the girls were secure in their seatbelts in the back seat.

“Love you, Daddy,” Skye said.

“Love you, bye,” Fee echoed.

I closed the back door to the truck.

“Thanks, Moe. I will have them back here on time,” Bee said.

“Call me if something comes up and the plans change, understand?”

“I will. I promise,” Bee responded before getting in the front seat of the truck.

I stood by my truck and watched them pull away before I got in and went through the security gate.

The tap on my car’s window startled me. I saw Morris looking in. He had his black and white houndstooth blazer resting on his arm. He still had on his white shirt, black and white floral tie and maroon slacks.

I rolled down the window.

“Hey, everything alright?” He asked with concern etched on his face.

“Yeah, I’m just having a pep talk with myself. I have a trunk full of groceries that I don’t feel like carrying up to my place, but I just told myself I could do it,” I chuckled.

“What did yourself say?” Morris asked.

“Shid…” I chuckled, “Myself ain’t up for no pep talk.”

“I will carry them up,” Morris offered.

“For real?”

“Open the trunk,” Morris said.

He didn’t have to tell me twice. I popped my trunk. I was exhausted and didn’t know how I would transport all my groceries up to my place. I’d even considered taking up what I needed immediately and getting the rest later.

I got out and tried to grab a couple of bags, but Morris wouldn’t let me. Instead, he passed me his jacket that smelled just like him. I had to fight not to bury my face in it and inhale his scent like a fabric softener commercial.

He confidently carried the bags up to my place without any signs of a struggle. He placed all the bags on my kitchen counter.

“I’m going to make some fish for dinner. I have enough to share. Would you like to have dinner with me?”

My heart was beating out of my chest, waiting on his answer. I was nervous immediately. I wasn’t sure if it was out of fear of him saying no or yes. I couldn’t decide. He quickly responded, putting me out of my misery.

“Hell yeah. That sounds one hundred percent better than the boiled hot dogs and chips I was about to prepare. I’m going to go and shower and change first if that’s cool?”

“Sure. It won’t take long for me to prepare,” I said while passing him his jacket. “Thank you, Morris.”

“No problem, Cambria,” he smiled and left.

I took a quick shower, threw on my greyPinksweat suit, and went back into the kitchen to cook my meal. I was glad Morris agreed to dinner because I’d purchased too many pieces of trout, and I didn’t want it to go to waste. I hated leftovers. Food never tasted the same reheated, in my opinion.

I’d just finished prepping the food when my doorbell rang.

“Hey, come in!” I smiled and stepped to the side to let Morris enter.
