He’d changed from his suit into a white t-shirt and a pair of black sweatpants and a pair of Jordan XX9s. He still smelled amazing.

He walked in with a bottle of wine.

“Here you go,” he handed me the bottle.

“What do you know about McIntyre’s wine?”

“It’s delicious,” he responded.

“I know. So delicious that I already have a bottle chilling,” I motioned towards my fridge.

“Cool, well, this one can replace that one.”

“Thank you. Come in and have a seat. It will only take a few minutes to prepare everything.”

“Do you need help?” He asked.

“No, thank you.”

He chose one of the stools at my kitchen counter. I grabbed a wine glass, opened the chilled bottle of wine, and poured some in the glass for him.

“So, the girls are with their mother?” I asked, returning back to my food prep.

He took a deep breath and rubbed his hand down his face and through his beard.

That beard was magnificent.I had a brief memory run through my mind about how soft his beard was and how skilled he was with those full lips. I shook the memory away just as he started to speak.

“Yeah, she and her boyfriend took the girls out for the evening.”

“Did she thank you for bailing her out?” I asked while seasoning the fish.

“She did, and she gave me the money back,” he answered.

“Well, that’s cool. What about her boyfriend. Do you like him?”

“I’m indifferent. As long as he doesn’t do anything to my girls,” Morris responded.

“Do the girls seem to like him?”

“Yeah. They haven’t learned how to regulate their fuckboy radars yet. I guess their mother hasn’t either.”

“That was a nice crispy burn for you to be indifferent, sir.”

“I just recently found out some information about him that shifted my opinion of him, but I trust Beatrice to make the right decisions as it relates to the girls’ safety.”

“They are exceptional girls, so smart and loving. You are doing a great job with them.”

“Thanks. I’m trying even though I don’t know a whole lot about little girls, especially hair, as you saw.”

“Yeah, that was pretty bad, but at least you tried,” I smiled.

“I’m learning my strengths and how to call on the village for my weaknesses,” Morris said.

“I remember you mentioned before that you had nine siblings is that the village?”

“No, they are not the village,” he quickly responded.

“You’re not close to them?”
