“As in Georgia?” Cam asked.

“Yep.”

“When?”

“She said at the end of the week.”

“What does that mean for you? How do you feel about it? Wait, I need to see your face. I’m coming over,” Cam said.

“Okay.”

I stopped by the girls’ room to check in on them. They both had fallen asleep. I went to open the front door.

“Hey,” Cam said after stepping in about a minute later. She placed the wine bottle and two glasses on the table.

“Hey,” I responded.

“Come here,” she said, opening her arms for a hug.

I didn’t feel like I’d needed a hug until I felt her arms wrap around my back and her soft breasts mold into my chest. I didn’t realize I was breathing fast until my breathing synced with hers. She soothingly rubbed her hands up and down my back. Holding on tight, I buried my face into her neck, deciding that I was tired of being strong for a moment. I needed the comfort she offered if only for a brief segment of time.

“Here, sit,” Cam said. “Let me pour you some wine.”

Reluctant to release her, I followed her instructions and sat down on the couch. I rested my head against the back of the sofa and closed my eyes.

“Here,” she said while handing me a glass of wine.

She kicked off her flamingo slippers and tucked her feet under her, settling next to me on the couch.

“So, how do you feel? What does her moving mean for you?”

“Honestly?”

“Yes, honestly,” she responded.

“I’m tired,” I said and drank my entire glass of wine down in one gulp.

Cam took my glass and filled it up again and passed it to me.

“That’s understandable. You should be tired. You have a lot going on. I don’t think you planned on being a single dad, right?”

“No, I didn’t plan on it. My goal was to raise my girls with their mother in a civil co-parenting situation. I’ve gone out of my way to be respectful and cordial to Bee for the sake of the girls. I can’t believe she would leave the city following behind a trash ass nigga.”

After draining my glass of wine, I decided it wasn’t strong enough. I got up from the couch and grabbed my bottle of vodka from the top shelf of my bookcase. I filled my glass halfway then sat back down next to Cam.

“What now?” Cam asked after I sat back down.

“I’m getting full custody of the girls. I’m not paying her another cent in child support, and I will fight her until my dying breath if she ever tries to take them from me again.”

“You were paying her support even though you shared custody?”

“I let her have primary custody just so the fighting would stop. Part of that primary custody agreement was me paying child support. I didn’t care because I knew the girls were being cared for. In turn, she agreed to no limitations on me seeing the girls, but then she decided to let them stay here full time.”

“I’ve never had a mom, so I can’t say that I understand that whole mother/daughter dynamic, but it seems crazy that a mom would leave her girls like that. She has to have a bigger plan in mind,” Cam said.

“I need someone to explain to me how a mother could just walk away from her children. For the life of me, I don’t understand it, either.”

“When you get an answer to that question, let me know,” Cam said while reaching for my glass of vodka. She took a sip and passed it back to me.
