Blinking fifty‘leven times per second did nothing to hold back the tears that fell after reading Skye’s letter. Her calling me very special went straight to my heart.
“It must be something in the air,” I said while drying my tears with the napkin Morris had placed next to my plate.
“They got you, huh?” Morris chuckled.
“Yes, they did!” I laughed while still trying to stop the tears. “This was really sweet of them. I appreciate it so much.”
“I got you something,” Morris said and stood from the table.
He placed a large box with pink wrapping paper and a huge pink bow on the top next to me on the floor.
“What is this?”
“Open it and find out,” he responded.
I removed the bow and ripped open the wrapping paper.
“It’s a foldable wagon,” I smiled.
“Yes, you can keep this in your trunk so when you have groceries or a lot of stuff to carry up, and I’m not around, you don’t have to make several trips or struggle to get everything up here,” Morris explained
“And it’s compact so it won’t take up much space in my trunk,” I said while looking at the picture on the box.
“Exactly.”
I’d struggled with carrying things up to my apartment since I’d moved into my place over three years ago. It meant a lot that Morris had noticed it and worked to fix my problem as soon as he saw it.
“Thank you, Morris. This is so thoughtful and kind. I appreciate this more than I could ever express,” I said, fighting back tears.
“So, do you forgive me for today?” he asked.
“I forgive you,” I smiled.

“Miss McLaren, it is my pleasure to inform you that you’ve been awarded the small business grant fromThe Valentine Group. Congratulations!” the caller said.
“Are you serious?”
“Yes, I am. Mr. Valentine would like to personally thank you for your application. Can I put you on hold and connect you?”
Hell yeah!
“Yes!”
“Hello, Miss McLaren?” Samuel said.
“Yes?” I smiled.
“Congratulations. My board and I were blown away by your business proposal and look forward to working with you to bringSuite Dreamsinto our neighborhood,” he finished.
“Thank you, Mr. Valentine,” I said, trying to speak through my tears.
“No need to thank me. You put in the work and I was honestly blown away. I know that you are a family friend, but please know that your relationship with my sister had nothing to do with your selection. You were one of the best candidates. Kerem will set up a meeting with you to discuss the particulars of your grant and then he will hand you off to the small business team. Congratulations again,” Samuel finished.
