“Thank you!”

I was so excited I didn’t know what to do with myself. I was going to call Morris, but he and the girls would be here at any moment and I would tell them in person. I sent Tweet a text:

I got the grant!!!

She called immediately.

“You got the grant?” she squealed.

“I got the grant!” I yelled.

“How did you find out?”

I gave her the details of the phone call with Samuel.

“I’m so, so happy! You will have to call me as soon as you talk with Kerem and get all the details.”

“I will, I promise.”

“Cam, it’s really happening!” Tweet said.

All the years of dreaming, hoping, and planning had all led me to this point. I prayed it would happen for me, but somewhere in the back of my mind, I wasn’t sure that it would.

I sent a text to Larry and Sallie Chadwick to tell them the good news while I brewed Morris’ and my coffee for the day.

After looking at my watch, I noticed that Morris and the girls hadn’t stopped by yet. I prepared his travel mug of coffee and walked across the hall to his apartment.

“Good morning,” I said after Skye opened the door. “I brought your daddy’s coffee over since you guys are running behind.”

“My daddy threw up. I don’t think he feels well,” Skye said.

“Your daddy threw up? Where is he?”

“He’s in his room,” she said while pointing to the back of their place.

I’d just spoken to Morris the night before. He’d said he had a slight headache, but he didn’t say he wasn’t feeling well.

I put the coffee cup on the counter and went in search of Morris.

“Morris?” I called out while walking towards the bedrooms.

“Yeah?” I heard him grunt as I approached his bedroom door.

I found him sitting on the corner of his massive bed with nothing on but a pair of black pajama pants.

“What’s going on?” I asked.

“I went to bed last night with a slight headache. As the night went on, the headache got worse and spread to the rest of my body. My entire body has a headache.” He attempted a chuckle. “My stomach is sick and I’m dizzy.”

I touched his forehead with the back of my hand.

“Moe, you are burning up. Did you take your temperature?”

“No, I’ll be fine. I just need a few minutes. I got to get myself together because I have to get the girls to school,” he said, then laid back on the bed.

I walked out of his room and into the kitchen. The girls were all dressed and eating a bowl of cereal.

“Do you guys have a thermometer?”
