“Lean on me,” I said, tucking myself under his arm.

“I will crush you.”

“No, you won’t come on.”

He managed to get to the bathroom with a little help from me.

“You got it or do you need help into the shower?”

“You would like that, wouldn’t you,” he laughed.

“Shut up. Seriously, are you okay?”

“I’m okay, mom,” he replied sarcastically.

“Whatever. I would just rather help you stay standing than to come in after your big ass has fallen and can’t get up. And don’t change the temperature of the shower.”

He rolled his eyes and closed the bathroom door.

“That was a better eye roll, but it was still amateurish at best,” I said through the door.

I sat next to the door to make sure I didn’t hear a loud thud or any sounds of distress.

“This water is cold, Cam!” Morris protested.

“It needs to be cold to cool you off some. Stop whining and stay in there for a few minutes!” I yelled through the door.

He stayed in the bathroom for about ten minutes, then came back out. I offered my shoulder to help him. He leaned on me a little as he made his way back to his bed. I retook his temperature.

“Your fever has gone down some. Drink this Gatorade. Hopefully, it will stay down.”

He took a few gulps of the Gatorade and laid down on his pillow.

“Get some rest. I will come back with more meds later.”

“Okay,” he said before closing his eyes.

“Is my daddy still sick?” Skye asked as soon as she got into the car.

“Yeah, he was resting when I left. I’m sure he wants you to do your homework, and then we can fix him some soup.”

The girls agreed.

We arrived back at the house, and the girls went right to their routine after checking on their dad. He was sleep, so they quietly went about their routine. I’d already chopped up all the vegetables for the soup and boiled the chicken. I needed to combine everything and let it cook.

“Ms. Cam, we have to go over our spelling words for the week, and Daddy checks our homework and signs this paper that we finished it,” Fee explained.

“Well, let’s do that then,” I said after sitting at the table with the girls.

I went over both girl’s spelling words and then checked their homework. I signed the paper for them, then we ate dinner.

After dinner, I went in to check on Morris.

“Hey,” I said after, feeling his forehead. He was still hot. “How do you feel?”

“Like I got hit by seven Mack trucks, then got into a fistfight with a heavyweight boxer.”
